Trivia / Cole Porter

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: Porter's popularity was rekindled after his song "Anything Goes" was featured in the Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 soundtracks.
  • Creator Breakdown: Porter's legs were crushed in a polo accident in 1937, leaving him permanently disabled and in constant severe pain for the rest of his life. It took him ten years to get back to his previous level of productivity. Later in life, he had to have a leg amputated (due to the previous injuries), and never wrote again.
  • Distanced from Current Events: "I Get a Kick Out of You" originally contained a reference to Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wife of Charles. Porter changed the lyrics himself to remove the reference after her infant son was kidnapped and murdered.
  • Executive Meddling: The lyrics to the song "I Get a Kick Out of You" from the musical Anything Goes originally contained a reference to cocaine. When the musical was turned into a movie, Porter was forced to censor the lyrics.
  • Referenced by...: The 1990 charity album Red Hot + Blue revolved around various artists recording Cover Versions of Porter's material; the album itself is titled after Porter's musical Red, Hot & Blue.
