Trivia / Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator

Go To

  • Defictionalization: Robert Bigelow of Budget Suites of America is now working on a space hotel (and actually has two small prototypes already in orbit, so it's not just a pipe dream). No word on whether he's worried about "Mr Hilton" sabotaging it, though.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Dahl wrote this mostly to earn money to handle health issues his family was having at the time. Notably averted when it came to potential movie adaptations, however, as Dahl refused to sell the rights to do so — albeit this may have been more out of spite than anything else, given that the effects required to realize most of the story's visuals wouldn't become feasible until a decade or so after the release of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
  • No Adaptations Allowed: As stated above, Dahl did not allow an adaptation of the book in his lifetime. However, the 2018 deal between the Roald Dahl Story Company and Netflix encompasses all of Dahl's children books, including The Great Glass Elevator, meaning an adaptation is now possible.
  • Sequel Gap: Eight years between books for U.S. readers. In the U.K., it was only six years, owing to the first book not being published there until 1967.
  • What Could Have Been: A second sequel was in the works: Charlie in the White House.
