Trivia / Carnivores Triassic

  • Inspiration for the Work: Word of God says the lack of Permian and Triassic animal representation in popular culture media is the reason why this mod was created (also expanding the game's world by introducing Paleozoic animals to the already existing Cenozoic and Mesozoic species in the canon). The main source of inspiration is the first episode of Walking with Dinosaurs ("New Blood") which depicted Triassic dinosaurs alongside synapsids and crocodilian archosaurs. Granted the prequel series Walking with Monsters depicted more animals from the pre-Jurassic time periods, which helped motivate the mod's creator into working on it. Also the Megalosaurus design is inspired by Ian Coleman's paleoart for the "Invicta Plastics" toy company, which depict a lone individual walking through a hot sandy desert. Evidently, that's the reason why it's the sole Jurassic period animal in his game mod.
  • What Could Have Been: The species roster and the visual designs of the animals went through several changes during the mod's development. Poharex wanted Gorgonops, Arizonasaurus, Estemmenosuchus, Desmatosuchus, Scutosaurus and Shringasaurus being part of the huntable creatures. However since the game allows only a maximum of 10 species to be hunted and the candidates were already chosen, these 6 animals were relegated to DLC instead. While many animals changed visually when this mod was being worked on, Poharex couldn't decide if they should be designed as paleontologically accurate or based on vintage outdated and inaccurate paleoart.
