• Acting for Two: Peter Hawkins provided all the voices for the first two series.
• Development Hell: A live action movie starring Nick Frost and Jason Flemyng was announced in 2017. In 2021, Frost stated that it was unlikely the film would ever get made due to budget issues.
• Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There is an urban legend to the effect that the series had characters whose names were offensive sexual puns, like "Master Bates", "Roger the Cabin Boy" and "Seaman Staines". In the early 1990s, John Ryan won retractions and settlements from two British Newspapers — The Guardian and the now-defunct Sunday Correspondent — for repeating the legend, although it persists to this day. Comedian Victor Lewis-Smith has claimed that he had started the legend in a comedy routine, although other people claim to have heard it much earlier. With the exception of one of the pirates being called Willy, the characters names were not actually rude — for example, "Master Bates" was really Master Mate (although the captain's somewhat adenoidal pronunciation of this character's name may well account for the legend's origins).
