• What Could Have Been:
  • There were two other pitches for the film made by Disney Imagineering. One pitch was based on Michael Jackson's fondness of Peter Pan and set in a fantasy setting. The other pitch involved Jackson getting lost in a Pirates of the Caribbean story after entering the ride.
  • Captain EO was planned to return in Disney Infinity, complete with Jackson reprising his role via archival audio. But a combination of the game's shutdown, and the massive amount of red tape to cut through (due to requiring clearance from Lucas, Coppola, and the Jackson estate) killed the idea.
  • The film's production overlapped with Live Aid, resulting in Jackson declining to appear at the event.
