Trivia Tropes

  • Backed by the Pentagon: Since Simon has connections with the Coast Guard, they provide helicopters to transport Brody and Krumitz in "L0M1S". The helicopters are real, and the actual Coast Guard is thanked in the credits.
  • Billing Displacement: Rosanna Arquette is the first-billed guest star in "Selfie 2.0," but only appears in two scenes.
  • California Doubling: Though the titular team are based in Washington, D.C. with their headquarters operating in Virginia, the show was filmed in Los Angeles.
  • Franchise Killer: Due to less than expected ratings and despite bringing in Ted Danson as a series regular and reprising his CSI role as D.B. Russell in the second season, the show was cancelled and ultimately became the final nail in the coffin for the CSI franchise after its popularity waned in recent years, with the original show and spin-offs being shuttered in the four years leading up to Cyber's premiere, though the franchise returned five years later with the revival of the original series titled CSI: Vegas. Cyber launched concurrent with the flagship's final seasons and struggled from the beginning with mixed reviews and low ratings. As many fans noted it’s not the same as the original CSI and there are a lot of mistakes which would made an IT expert (or in some cases, anyone who used a computer) roll their eyes.
  • Franchise Zombie: The CSI franchise was already dying when Cyber launched; it merely dragged the process out an additional year.
  • Real-Life Relative / Stunt Casting: Patricia Arquette's sister Rosanna plays Trish McCarthy, the sister of Danielle McCarthy (Avery's murdered client), in "Selfie 2.0".
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The show's second season was originally going to consist of 22 episodes before it was ultimately reduced to 18.
    • Had there been a third season, then both Avery and D.B. would've been Put on a Bus, as Patricia Arquette had signed on for four film projects and Ted Danson announced his decision to leave respectively.

Assorted Trivia

  • This is the only series in the franchise to have a crossover episode debuting before its run with the CSI episode "The Twin Paradox", which aired four months before the series premiere and seven months after the Poorly Disguised Pilot "Kitty".
