- Hostility on the Set: The notoriously irascible Otto Preminger reportedly clashed with Laurence Olivier (who later called Preminger a "bully" in his memoirs) and Keir Dullea during filming. Noël Coward also antagonized Dullea, taunting him by saying "Keir Dullea, gone tomorrow!"
- Irony as She Is Cast: Famously gay Noël Coward as Horatio Wilson, a Dirty Old Man who has the hots for Ann.
- Separated-at-Birth Casting: This is the main reason why Otto Preminger cast Keir Dullea and Carol Lynley in the lead roles, he thought that they looked alike as brother-and-sister.
- What Could Have Been:
- The studio originally wanted Ryan O'Neal and Jane Fonda as Steven Lake and Ann Lake.
- Robert Shaw and George C. Scott were considered for the role of Superintendent Newhouse.
- Dalton Trumbo and Ira Levin worked on early drafts of the screenplay, when it was still going to be set in New York like the novel.
- A 2007 remake starring Reese Witherspoon was scrapped when she quit a month before filming was scheduled to start. Of course, some critics felt that it had already been loosely remade, with lots of reviews in 2005 calling Flightplan "Bunny Lake Is Missing on an airplane".
