- Cast the Runner-Up: According to Alan Parker, the actress originally selected to play Blousey instead played Dandy Dan's equestrian partner who is not listed in the cast credits.
- Fake American: To varying degrees of success; the film was shot in England and used British actors for most parts with notable exceptions of Scott Baio, Jodie Foster and John Cassisi.
- Hostility on the Set: Florence Garland had a frosty relationship off-screen with Scott Baio and admitted years later that she couldn't stand him. The lack of any on-screen chemistry between the actors is noticeable in their scenes together.
- Non-Singing Voice: The kids are lip-synching to adult voices, owing to a lack of rehearsal time for the former. The only time this isn't used is for the Cute, but Cacophonic Lena Marelli.
- What Could Have Been: Tatum O'Neal was considered for Tallulah.
- Written for My Kids: Alan Parker first came up with the idea for the story while driving from London to his house in Derbyshire - to keep his kids occupied, he told them this story, then his son Alexander, asked why kids couldn't be the heroes.
