• The Merch: The yearbook seen in this episode, the Sunnydale High Yearbook, was released as a tie-in product after this episode aired.
• What Could Have Been: Sunday was originally supposed to be a Slayer turned vampire. Joss Whedon also mentioned his regret of killing her off so quickly as he admited she made for an interesting character. By the time he realized it, it was too late.
• Write Who You Know: Joss Whedon said the following at the Posting Board about the scene when Buffy’s kicked out of class:
  As to the Prof in Buffy ep 1, I freely confess that he’s based on an old prof of mine, Joe Reed, who kicked my friend David out of the class day one in front of 200 kids. Joe is cool.
