Trivia / Brutal Mario

• Dummied Out:
  • A number of songs are present but unused in the game's files, most notably the end credits themes of Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country, as well as "The Sun Rises" from Okami.
  • Additionally, the four-headed Yoshi boss from VIP Mario 4 (another hack Carol worked on) is unused in at least earlier demos.
• Follow the Leader:
  • Many, many hacks have tried to rip this game off in at least one way or another. Sometimes including using whole levels from it.
  • It was also the first notable hack that introduced custom bosses that were designed differently, so SMW hack expectations started becoming bigger. The level design was heavily criticized though.
• What Could Have Been: As the hack has been discontinued as of 2020, a number of level and boss concepts have been left unfinished:
  • In the most recent demo, Lemmy Koopa's boss fight was heavily reworked. Carol originally had plans to overhaul the other Koopaling fights too, as well as the Giant Baby Kirby and Doom's Wall fights.
  • The Luigi World, foreshadowed since the early demos, only has Rescue Yoshi!, Maze Cave 2 and Koindozer Forest completed, but the other level concepts have been revealed, showing it to be a Mushroom Kingdom left in ruins after Mario's tyrannical reign:
    • Black Switch Palace: one last Switch Palace, other than that no details are known.
    • Mushroom Kingdom #1-3: three levels based on a mixture between an Arabian town and a ruined Toad Town.
    • Peach's Castle: Featuring a boss fight against Princess Peach and Poochy, followed by Peach turning into the Goddess boss from Final Fantasy VI
    • Fortress of the Skies: Luigi Omen: The final level in a normal playthrough, based on the Black Omen. This is where the Shinryu and Omega fights would have been, with later bosses including Queen Zeal, and the climatic fight against Luigi
    • Brutal Mario: A secret final level, unlocked for collecting all DK Coins. It would contain a Mega Man-style Boss Rush room against an unknown set of bosses, culminating in a True Final Boss fight against Mario himself while you play as Luigi.
