• Cast the Expert: Several prison guards and ex-convicts appear in the movie as guards and prisoners, respectively.
• Troubled Production: Original director Bob Rafelson was fired after a week and a half in production, allegedly for punching a studio executive (Rafelson later sued the studio). The film then went over time and over budget, leaving Robert Redford very little time to prepare his directorial debut Ordinary People.
