• Cast Incest: Supposedly Dave Annable and Emily VanCamp, which helped lead to the Justin/Rebecca retcon.
• Fake American:
  • Kevin is played by a Welsh actor.
  • Scotty and Rebecca's actors are Canadian.
  • Sarah's actress is Australian... she even slips accents in the bloopers.
• Real-Life Relative:
  • Patricia Wettig (Holly Harper) and Ken Olin (David Caplan) are married in real life.
  • Kevin and Scotty's surrogate Michelle is played by their daughter Roxy Olin.
  • Justin's girlfriend in Season 5 is played by Odette Yustman - who Dave Annable subsequently married.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The original pilot had several cast differences (Betty Buckley as Nora (then named Iva) and Jonathan LaPaglia as Bryan, later renamed Kevin). Also, Bryan/Kevin would have been a formerly married man with a child who had just come out.
  • Rob Lowe suggested John Barrowman for the role of Jason McCallister, as he'd co-starred with him in a West End production of A Few Good Men, but he had to decline due to his commitment to Torchwood.
  • Jeff Bridges was asked to play Tommy Walker, but turned it down. Beau Bridges was later cast as Nick Brody for the last five episodes of the series.
