  • Approval of God: Charles Bronson was not allowed to see the film, but said that if his mother liked it, that would be enough for him. According to Refn, his mother loved it. In 2011 Bronson was finally allowed to see the film and called it "theatrical, creative and brilliant".
  • Career Resurrection: Tom Hardy was in a tailspin after the failure of Star Trek: Nemesis. This film was the first project that got critics to sit up and take notice of his true talent as an actor, before his collaborations with director Christopher Nolan (Inception and The Dark Knight Rises) solidified his return.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Tom Hardy got huge for this movie.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Tom Hardy admits in an interview that one of the reasons he took the part was because playing a beefcake who beats people up would be good for his career. True enough, Hardy's career took off after the film, and it almost certainly gave him a lock on his most prominent role to date, the brawny Bane in The Dark Knight Rises
  • What Could Have Been: Jason Statham was originally asked to play Charles Bronson, but scheduling conflicts prevented this.
