  • Approval of God: Lionsgate approved of the Expendabros game's creation according to Word of God.
  • Ascended Fanon: The reason Bro Lee was finally added to the roster on the 7th July 2016 update. He's been the most requested character by the fans for years, to the point that Free Lives joked about having a Drinking Game which consisted in taking a shot everytime "Broce Lee" was suggested. See here.
  • Dummied Out:
    • Using a character-selecting mod reveals unused characters lurking in the game's code. Notable ones include the Suicide Mook (with a corrupted sprite). As in the same ones you fight, whose moveset consists of the obvious. Although doing so costs you one of your own lives. Also in the roster is Brondle Fly, whose portrait consists of an altered Brobocop mugshot used as a placeholder and a seemingly infinite supply of Bro Max's boomerangs. However, his actual moveset consists of spitting acid (despite holding a rifle) with a high DPS which one-shots mooks but is ineffective against mechanical enemies, and unlimited use of a teleporting special attack that homes in on mooks and telefrags them. Brondlefly was eventually added as a playable character in the Broforce Forever update.
    • When character-specific melee attacks were first added, Snake Broskin's melee attack used to be a baseball bat. This was reverted back to the standard knife at some point. In a similar fashion, Brade originally threw bladed shuriken for his "melee" attack. This was eventually changed to a functionally identical knife, which is shared by The Brode.
    • In early beta stages of the game, mooks used Homer Simpson yells, sprinkled with the occasional Wilhelm Scream. The first was removed to avoid copyright issues, the second because the developers eventually found it annoying.
  • What Could Have Been: Much changed between the original prototype made for Ludum Dare ("Rambros") and the final version.
    • In the prototype/demo, Indiana Jones originally fired a flaregun (which had unlimited ammunition) and his secondary was the whip. This was changed for the final product, where his primary is the whip and secondary is a revolver with six shots.
    • There were plans at one point to include He-Bro and his enemies into the game (to the point of having concept art drawn up for it). It is unknown if this was the original concept behind Bronan the Barbarian or was removed entirely.
    • Concept art revealing that The Alien Queen was meant to be a boss seems to indicate that she was later replaced with Satan's final form due to the similarities in size and appearance.
    • Early art for the bros suggests that the developers had 16-bit style graphics in mind before being scaled down for the final game. It is likely this was done out of concern that it would push the Lawyer Friendly Cameos of the game into decidedly lawyer unfriendly territory.
