- Creator Cameo: As well as directing "The Last Supper" (the TV series's first season finale), Amy Poehler plays a cook constantly arguing with a waiter.
- The Danza: In the web series, both Abbi and Ilana use their real-life first and last names, while their last names were changed for the TV series.
- Even more so for Ilana, since Wexler (her last name on the TV series) is her mother's maiden name.

- Deleted Role: Phish bassist Mike Gordon filmed a scene for the fifth season premiere "Stories" in which Ilana fails to recognize him when she takes a photo of his shoes for social media — Part of the joke being that Abbi, who is not in the scene, is a devoted fan of Phish and would have immediately recognized him. to the Instagram account of jam band news site Live for Live Music. - Queer Character, Queer Actor:
- The bisexual Ilana Wexler is portrayed by Ilana Glazer who identifies herself as queer (and in fact credits this show for helping her identify her sexuality).
- Abbi Abrams has later on revealed that she has had sexual relationships with women. Her actress, Abbi Jacobson is bisexual.
