Trivia / Botchamania

Go To

  • Follow the Leader: Videos created in the style of Botchamania include Pricemania, a one-off The Price Is Right video, Soccermania, an ongoing soccer-themed series, and Pokémania, a dissection of the Pokémon anime. There's even a Botchamania Chile and a Botchamania Argentina, each dedicated to their respective country's wrestling scene.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: When Maffew's second account on YouTube got suspended, some users like FantomaMark1 and TableOfJapan kept the bulk of the videos circulating on YouTube. His response to cries for a DVD release essentially amount to "HA HA HA—No."
  • Meme Acknowledgement: Several wrestlers within the business have referenced Botchamania's memes on occasion:
    • Killer Kelly was served the "Send for the man" meme during an outtake where she started Corpsing.
    • All Elite Wrestling commentator Excalibur referenced the "I Am the Table" meme at Double or Nothing, as shown in Botchamania 387. He since went on to make the phrase a regular call for whenever tables don't break on AEW's weekly TV show Dynamite.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Botchamania 174 opens with a 20-second Chikara advert, immediately followed with the message "I need the money; don't judge me." This is further lampshaded as each of the adverts has a song about money or selling out playing over it. It would be ultimately subverted, when #184 displays the message, "CHIKARA pays for advertising on my site; I do this as a courtesy to them."
  • Referenced by...:
    • Several wrestlers within the business have referenced Botchamania on occasion:
      • Paige has called another Diva "Queen of Botchamania" in a promo.
      • Dolph Ziggler name-dropped Botchamania on the March 21, 2016 episode of Raw while cutting a promo on Kevin Owens (in reference to how Owens refers to the WrestleManias he participates in as "KO-Mania", and listing several words that end with "-Mania"). Maffew reacted like he was having a coronary.
      • Xavier Woods and Tyler Breeze namedropped Botchamania on the WrestleMania 21 finale of their "Battle of the Brands" series on Up, Up, Down, Down. The moment was later shown at the end of Botchamania 393.
      • All Elite Wrestling commentator Excalibur has referenced the "I Am the Table" meme, making the phrase a regular call for whenever tables don't break on AEW.
    • Movie review web series Cinematic Excrement has made reference to Botchamania on occasion, given that its host, Sean "Smeghead" Moore, is a professed fan of professional wrestling. In The Stinger for the review of Birdemic 2: The Resurrection, a scene of Nathalie and Rod Corpsing is followed by the caption "Nathalie and Rod corpsing? Send for the man!",note  while the stinger for the review of 2012: Doomsday (a Christian mockbuster of 2012) is none other than the "JEEEZUS!!!" soundbite.
    • KSI referenced the "I Am the Table" Running Gag in his song "Ares". Naturally, Maffew followed suit and showed the clip in Botchamania 378... much to KSI's delight. He would later go on record stating that he's a big Botchamania fan.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Maffew's original YouTube account got shutdown for multiple copyright infractions, and as a result Maffew frequently creates new accounts for new Botchamanias. Perhaps the other media have a point but a lot of so called violations would fall under fair use when it comes to the professional wrestling material. Maffew is English however, which may complicate the legal side of this, and/or make it impossible for him to defend himself if he was taken to court by the mostly American wrestling companies he features. The account he's least proud of, Maffewfucksmen, is still up.
  • Screwed by the Network: In April 2020, Maffew informed that Vimeo told him that hosting Botchamania is using up too much bandwidth with their average views per video, and as such wanted $10,000 annually to continue hosting his videos. Obviously not having the money, Maffew had no other option but to close his account there and leave the site.
  • Sincerest Form of Flattery: According to Maffew, Botchamania in its current form was created in response to three poor-quality compilations of wrestling bloopers called "Botchamania" created by two different people. He reasoned that he could do better and so came up with Botchamania 4 the next day, then 5, then 6, etc. Eventually, he compiled the best-quality clips he could find from the original videos into a new entry called "Botchamania 1, 2, & 3 Maffew Edition."
