Trivia / Bodycount (2011)

Go To

  • Creator Killer: A light example. The commercial failure of Bodycount along with Operation Flashpoint: Red River caused Codemasters to focus exclusively on racing games instead.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Bodycount was only released for 7th gen consoles (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3), and unlike many 7th gen console exclusives it was never made backwards compatible on later gen consoles. Thus the only way to play it is on an original 7th gen console (which haven't been manufactured since 2015-2016) or through emulation (which requires learning a decent amount of technical wizardry).
  • Troubled Production: According to this analysis video, while the development team behind Bodycount did include former members of the Black development team, they were primarily drawn from the part of the team responsible for the coding and foundation (specifically the number two designer, the graphics designer, and the two A.I. programmers), rather than the part of the team responsible for overall design, concept, and "feel" of the game. Also, the team's ambition was to make an open-world cop game, and they initially had no interest in making a Spiritual Successor to Black, only falling back on such a project due the limited scope making it more attainable than the more complex and expensive open-world game they had envisioned. The game was also heavily cut down from initial concepts fairly late into production, in order to push it out the door and also due to a decent chunk of the team jumping ship midway through, including the project lead whose idea it was in the first place. This accounts for the truncated plot, heavy re-use of assets such as multiple missions set in the same levels, and various unfulfilling design choices.
