Trivia / Bobby Lashley

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: One of the most successful alumni of WWE's ECW brand, on equal level with The Miz, John Morrison, and Sheamus. This was in fact invoked by Vince McMahon according to Paul Heyman, who claims Vince revived ECW solely to get Lashley over. This being said, his success pales in comparison to Heyman's own preferred wrestler, CM Punk, whose tenure in WWE lasted six to seven years longer than Lashley's first run with the company and saw him become a multiple-time world champion with enough Popularity Power to rival John Cena. Lashley didn't become a world champion in WWE until his second run with the company in 2021, well over a decade after his run in ECW.
  • Doing It for the Art: Suggested by Vince Verhei, who after witnessing Lashley's athletic prowess and noting the Canadian audience was crapping all over him despite it, wondered why Lashley bothered with wrestling at all when he could be successful in any legit sport, he put his mind to. Even after returning to legit competition and winning championships, Lashley still came back to professional wrestling, in a promotion where he was known to get a lukewarm response to boot. Though people are warming up to him even in TNA, because it is clear Lashley loves pro wrestling.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Basically became the TNA World Heavyweight Champion because MVP blew out his knee.
  • Romance on the Set: Dated former WWE Diva Kristal Marshall
  • Tyop on the Cover: When Guyana Times Entertainment announced he was going to be appearing on the International Championship Wrestling segment of Maximum Sport, they spelled his name Booby, despite the posters for said event spelling it Bobby.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • He was training for the Olympics in 2003 when he suffered a knee injury during a robbery at a bank where he was doing business.
    • His rematch with James Thompson was put off for three years due to their mutual injuries whenever anything was lined up, ending up taking place in a different promotion (Super Fight League to Bellator) in a different country (India to USA).
    • International Championship Wrestling's Thunda In Guyana show usually features independent Caribbean wrestlers but the May of 2017 show was delayed until June 1st to get "bigger superstars in the wrestling fraternity" such as Al Snow, Tommy Dreamer, Tyrus, Ryback, Carlito Colón and of course Bobby Lashley.
    • On two separate occasions Lashley was involved in post-Royal Rumble feuds that were possibly meant to lead to Wrestlemania matches but were shelved when his opposite number caught COVID-19 in February of that year and dealt with later heart-related complications. The first time was in 2021 with Keith Lee. Lee was off television until well into the summer, and upon his return would be repackaged and eventually released. The second time was in 2023 with Bray Wyatt. Sadly, said heart complications would claim his life that August. In another eerie coincidence, both Lee and Wyatt were 36 at the time.
