• Amateur Cast: All of the film's actors were locals who answered a casting call in the newspaper.
• Completely Different Title: Zaat was the original, director-preferred title of the film but the film's distributor retitled it Blood Waters of Dr. Z for its initial release. It was also retitled Hydra at one point, and early video releases in the '80s called it Attack of the Swamp Creature.
• Corpsing: The dead girl isn't able to keep herself still or regulate her breathing enough to look like a corpse.
• No Budget: Had a budget of $75,000, which shows through the poorly made costume for Zaat.
• Science Marches On: Sargassum fish are no longer a danger to Floridian waters.
