  • Channel Hop:
    • The Japanese distribution rights are currently owned by NBCUniversal due to their purchase of Geneon in 2008.
    • In the US, it went from Starz Edge (where it aired uncensored) and Funimation Channel, and later [adult swim].
    • At first, Geneon Entertainment USA handled the North American releases, but when the company went out of business, Funimation took over.
  • Creator Backlash: Saffron Henderson is embarrassed by the exaggerated accent that she was asked to use for her performance as Shenhua, feeling that it was a case of cultural appropriation, although she had fun working on the show itself.
  • Creator Breakdown: Rei Hiroe revealed in 2021 that he had been struggling with clinical depression for years, and that it was at least partially the reason why the manga has undergone the occasional Schedule Slip.
  • Creator Couple: While they don’t appear in the same arc, Jonathan Holmes, voice of Chaka is married to Eda’s voice actor Lisa Ann Beley.
  • Creator's Favorite: Marÿke Hendrikse has cited Revy as her favorite role.
  • International Coproduction: The series was a coproduction between Madhouse, Geneon Entertainment and Shogakukan in Japan, and Geneon Entertainment USA in the United States.
  • No Dub for You: While normally very good about averting this, the omakes were sadly exempt. Considering Revy's actress, the Magical Girl parody would've been amazing.
  • No Export for You: The two light novels, which can only be ordered from Japan. The first novel, Shaitane Badi, has been fully fan translated by a blogger. The second, Ballad of the Sinful Wizard, has a fan translation that is very slowly progressing.

  • Schedule Slip: The series took a hiatus of nearly 3 years between March 2010 and June 2013 before returning... for less than a year. Then came another gap that lasted from February 2014 to May 2017, leaving the story hanging right in the middle of the arc. Apparently, the reason for the latter slip was due to Hiroe being busy working on Re:CREATORS. Then yet another hiatus started as of August 2018, but at least the current arc was wrapped up. The series came back over a year later in September 2019 and now publishes a new chapter every two to three months instead of on a monthly basis. The English-language releases have been even worse: due to lack of chapters to translate, there was a five-year gap between volumes 9 and 10, and another four years passed before volume 11 came out to complete the PLA arc. As of January 2024, the series release schedule from the beginning is summarized with this graphic.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • At least one piece of old artwork shows Rock with a gun, as seen here. (Note that at this stage Rock also had light brown hair while Revy had short black hair.)
    • The English dub was originally going to be provided by ADV Films instead of The Ocean Group, but the company went under.
    • Tabitha St. Germain mentioned in an interview with Trevor Devall's Voiceprint that she wanted to do a full-blown South American Spanish accent, but was told to tone it down.
    • Rei Hiroe considered to do the manga set in the medieval era, but dropped the idea.
