Trivia / Big Fat Liar

Go To

  • Recycled Set: The flood scene in the end is a part of the Universal Studios Hollywood studio tour - in fact, it was also used in ¡Three Amigos!.
    • When Jason and Kaylee hop off the tour shuttle earlier in the film, they find their way onto a large set piece from The Scorpion King. (Doubles with Early-Bird Cameo, because Big Fat Liar opened 2 months before The Scorpion King.)
  • Technology Marches On: Today, or even just a few years after the film's release, most of Jason's problems could be solved by writing his essay with a program like Microsoft Word or Google Docs, not only allowing him to easily print out a saved copy of his essay after he lost it but also giving him proof that Wolf was plagiarizing him. The reason he was sent to summer school was also because he could not produce a copy - a word processing program would easily nullify this issue since he could also email it as an attachment or submit it electronically.
    • Granted, Jason's English teacher explicitly tells him that she doesn't want him to submit his essay typed (since he could easily just copy something off the internet) and that she wants it handwritten. However, even today:
      • Some schools, and most colleges, actually have an online "plagiarism checker." So, even if he did steal a story off the Internet, they'd find out.
  • Throw It In!: Most of Kaylee's gags were ad-libbed.
  • Wag the Director: Originally, Dustin "Dusty" Wong was going to speak with a stereotypical Asian accent, but when John Cho was asked to use the accent, he refused because he didn't want young people thinking that it was OK to laugh at other people's accents. Shawn Levy agreed to let him play the part with his natural accent.
