Trivia / Before Crisis

Go To

  • Abandonware: One of the most egregious instances in Final Fantasy. Square-Enix never re-released the original game on modern devices and it was never released outside of Japan, resulting in Before Crisis being incredibly obscure and it saw very little distribution. Online and download services for the game are long gone and each episode was originally downloaded individually (so there is no one "master file" to distribute), so unless someone out there owns an early 2000s cellphone that still has the game installed on it, it's unknown if the game even exists anymore. But even if they did the game is unplayable because Final Fantasy Mobile was shut down in 2018 and with it the infrastructure needed to switch between episodes.
  • No Export for You: Originally this was the only major title in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII not to receive an international release. Hajime Tabata voiced an interest in remaking the game for the Nintendo 3DS but it didn't happened due to Tabata having left Square Enix in 2019. In 2021, Before Crisis was finally slated for a western release as part of the Ever Crisis mobile game.
  • What Could Have Been: The game was slated for an American release in 2006 but was pushed back indefinitely because Western phones at the time did not meet the technical requirements needed to play the game.
