• Enforced Method Acting: Edward James Olmos's behavior during the confrontation scene between Bill and Kara was so unnerving that Katee Sackhoff instinctively walked out of the room with her hands over her head, fearing he was going to throw something at her. The take was kept in the final episode.
• Executive Meddling: The opening scene came from a suggestion from the network that the show was a little too bleak and needed something more lively, like a party. Ron Moore's response was to include a celebration, and promptly kill all those involved. The network kept all their suggestions to themselves after that.
