• Development Hell: CBS bought the pilot script in 2002 but didn't pursue production. Then Vince Gilligan created a show called Breaking Bad and suddenly everything he'd touched became a hot commodity. Even old scripts that had been tossed aside.

• Irony as She Is Cast: Kal Penn once again plays someone who uses marijuana (with a prescription this time). In real life, however, Penn has never used marijuana and stated that he simply has no interest in trying it.
• Reality Subtext: Agnew is frequently seen holding things in his left hand or otherwise obscuring it from the camera in one way or another (he frequently keeps it in his pocket). This is to hide the fact that Dean Winters' had part of his left thumb amputated after developing gangrene due to a bacterial infection.
