Trivia / Batman: The Animated Series E3 "Nothing to Fear"

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Despite the episode's reputation among fans as one of the series' best (and some awesome animation and moments), the producers do not like it that much, believing the script to be mediocre, the pacing bad and the method used to defeat Scarecrow to be overly cliché.
Bruce Timm: It was written by Henry Gilroy, who had never written cartoons before. He was a film editor here and always wanted to get into writing. At the time we didn't have a story editor, so we gave it a go. When he turned in his first draft, which wasn't bad, we had hired our first story editor, Sean Derek. We immediately came to loggerheads over this show. Some of the dialogue she changed wasn't changed for the better.
  • First Appearance: Of the Scarecrow (production-wise).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Scarecrow would have been using his fear toxin to extort money from Gotham's elite, instead of trying to get revenge on the university.
    • As noted on the main page, Scarecrow's design was more hunched over than in the final product. This episode-wide moment of incorrect design by Dong Yang ended up becoming the norm.
