• Release Date Change: The film was originally going to be released in Summer 1984 under the Disney name before it was decided to make it a Touchstone release due to its darker content. The credits still name Walt Disney Productions as the copyright holder, however. The movie still shows Susan posing with the native tribe holding the notebook saying "Class of '84".
• Science Marches On: The film was produced/released at about the same time the general public was learning that Brontosaurus was a defunct genus per the rules of scientific nomenclature. 30 years later, Brontosaurus became valid once more.
