  • All-Star Cast: With the Season 2 Retool that changed the show's focus to the nursing home, a number of famous faces joined the cast as residents. Besides Linda Lavin continuing as Norma, Jane Seymour (Actress) (Bette), Héctor Elizondo (Harry), Ben Vereen (Peter), Priscilla Lopez (Meredith) and D.B. Sweeney (Bert) also became regulars.
  • The Cast Show Off: Not surprisingly, Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford gets a few chances to show off her singing chops on the show.
  • Only Barely Renewed: It ended both of its seasons squarely "on the bubble" for renewal, living in the shadow of its Adored by the Network CBS Thursday companion Young Sheldon. It slipped through after Season 1, but after a dragged out process in which even Chuck Lorre admitted he had no clue as to whether it would be coming back for a third season, CBS finally dropped it.
  • The Other Darrin: Rosa Salazar played Adriana until she got put on a plane to Switzerland at the end of Season 1. Michelle Ortiz took over the role when she returned the next season.
  • The Other Marty: The role of Maddie was played by Kamryn Kunody in the original taping of the pilot, which was completed a few weeks before the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the summer of 2020 the role was recast with Maggie Elizabeth Jones, then just weeks before the series premiere Izzy G replaced Jones.
  • Those Two Actors: Way back in 1977, when Linda Lavin (Norma) was in the first season of her signature role on Alice, Bernie Kopell (Mr. Knudsen) guest-starred in an episode as an inept burglar.
  • Write What You Know: The series was inspired by the actual experience of creator Marco Pennette. In 2013 he needed a kidney transplant and had trouble finding a donor until a childhood friend showed up and offered hers.
