Trivia / Ax 'Em

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Editor George Bolden has completely disavowed this film, and even wrote an IMDB review pleading people not to judge his body of work (of which has been mostly documentary-based) off this movie.
  • The Danza: The main character Michael is portrayed by director, writer, and actor...Michael Mfume.
  • Dedication: To the director's grandmother.
  • No Budget: The estimated budget for the film was a whopping $650 - and it shows. The movie appears to be shot on 16mm film but was edited on videotape and none of the dialogue was ADRed.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: The film was produced in 1992 (under the title The Weekend It Lives), and even received a brief theatrical showing in Baltimore, Maryland and a very limited VHS release, but sat on the shelf for a decade before being released to DVD in 2002.
  • Technology Marches On: One kill is set up when a group of people are forced to try and find someone who will let them use their home phone to make a call after their car runs out of gas. The fact that cell phones are not even mentioned in this scene pegs it to a time before they became ubiquitous.
  • What Could Have Been: Michael Mfume had mentioned a script for a sequel/spin-off named The Awakening in early interviews, but nothing panned out.
