Trivia / Avicii

  • Died During Production: Avīci (01) was supposed to be the first of a trilogy of EPs, but they had to be cancelled after Bergling committed suicide in 2018. A third full-length studio album, eventually called Tim, was also not finished at the time of his death, though some assistance from collaborators allowed it to later be released posthumously.

    • Mike Posner starts his most famous song "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" with “I took a pill in Ibiza to show Avicii I was cool.”
    • Ash from Both Can Be True has an Avicii shirt.
  • Two-Hit Wonder:
    • While a very big name in the world of EDM, he only got two songs into the American Top 40. True's lead single "Wake Me Up!", which holds the record for the biggest EDM hit in history (a feat only rivaled by Major Lazer's "Lean On" two years later), topped many charts and placed at #4 on the Hot 100. Later, its second follow-up (after "You Make Me", which was released shortly before but didn't chart) "Hey Brother" wasn't quite as big as its predecessor, but it was enough to hit #16. Only a couple of singles since then have charted at all on the Hot 100 (largely due to radio executives screwing him over to give the former song near-unprecedented recurrent airplay) and he is remembered by mainstream audiences as a one-hit wonder for "Wake Me Up!" (and if he is considered a two-hit wonder, "Levels" is usually cited as the second hit). He still remained a huge figure in the electronic scene though which may have helped earned him gold certificates on some of his less successful singles over time.
    • Avoided in most other places he charted, as he had a string of hits in a number of European countries and Australia.
  • Uncredited Role: None of Avicii's earlier tracks ever list the featured musicians. This includes frequent collaborators such as Noonie Bao, Sterling Fox and Audra Mae, and bigger names such as Chris Martin, Wyclef Jean and Brandon Flowers.
  • What Could Have Been: Avīci (01) was said to be the first of 3 EPs that would have collectively been his third studio album. The True Stories documentary features tracks supposedly from the second and third EP playing.
