Trivia / Avengers C.A.M.P.U.S.

  • Development Hell: Disney California Adventure's C.A.M.P.U.S. has had a long planned third Avengers ride in development. This attraction would be the headliner for the land, with the attraction set at the existing Avengers Compound building at the back of the C.A.M.P.U.S. This attraction originally involved guests riding in a Quinjet to Wakanda. Once there, they would "participate" in The Battle of Wakanda, as seen in Avengers: Infinty War. The Concept Art depicts guests in "Jetpacks" (likely an inverted coaster) flying over Wakanda. However, the attraction would later be heavily redeveloped as an attraction based on the MCU's multiverse. The new iteration would scrap the initial Quinjet premise and the Jetpack portion of the attraction. The new premise has guests riding in a (ground based) vehicle facing an Alternate Universe version of Thanos, named King Thanos who won in Avengers: Endgame and now seeks to dominate the Multiverse. As of 2023, the attraction has yet to begin construction and has no opening date announced.
  • In Memoriam:
    • The California C.A.M.P.U.S. includes a memorial plaque for Stan Lee.
    • While most of the lockers in W.E.B. Slingers belong to Marvel characters, one in California is dedicated to a late Imagineer named Grisol Ramirez who had worked on the ride.
  • Meme Acknowledgment:
    • The California C.A.M.P.U.S. includes shawarma stands, based on the famous Stinger from The Avengers where the team goes out to eat. According to the memorabilia on the stands, the restaurant was quick to capitalize on the fame from "The Avengers ate here!"
    • The pre-show for the cruise's Quantum Encounter features Scott Lang attempting to address why he didn't defeat Thanos using the often-suggested "Thanus Theory", but he gets cut off before the actual explanation.
  • Release Date Change: The C.A.M.P.U.S.es were originally going to open in 2020 for California and 2021 for Paris before being pushed back a year each due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers
    • Disney can't build C.A.M.P.U.S.es in Florida or Tokyo, thanks to Marvel signing away those rights to Universal in the 90s. The same deals also prevent the California park from using the "Marvel" name in advertising. However, Disney is able to work around the former issue by using heroes that Universal doesn't have the rights to, like the Guardians of the Galaxy.
    • Since Spider-Man's film rights are licensed to Sony, Disney can't use any of that material without getting them involved. The biggest effect is that the park had a new suit designed instead of using ones from the movies. This is also why none of the Spider-Man's villains from the films are featured in W.E.B. Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure.
  • What Could Have Been: The main headquarters building in California was originally planned to house a Quinjet ride with a first of its kind ride system which was announced at D23 2019. It ended up never being built (though its intended accompanying gift shop was two years after launch, replacing an Avengers Super Store that had been set up in warehouse space in the neighboring Hollywood Land in the meantime), and a Multiverse-themed ride is being planned instead.
