Trivia / Aurora (2019)

Go To

  • Approval of God: Having been a troper for quite a while, Red was positively giddy to discover that the webcomic got its own TVTropes page. In addition, Fanart is often reblogged onto the official Tumblr as a sign of appreciation.
  • Common Knowledge: Within the fandom, Kendal is often misspelled as the more common name Kendall.
  • Demand Overload: After Red plugged it in this video, so many people visited the site that it crashed.
  • Epileptic Trees: A fair amount of fan speculation has come from the revelation that over the years Red has drawn many Aurora characters into her Trope Talk series. Red for her part claims she only drew them as character models she was used to and that there is no correlation between who's being depicted and the content of the video.
  • Line to God: Red's Tumblr account is here and available for asks.
  • Meme Acknowledgement: After the fandom started calling every town guard Ivan, Red got in on the joke both in the alt-text and the comic itself.
  • Saved from Development Hell: According to Red, the comic has been in the works for a decade but she only recently managed to actually start it.
  • Shrug of God: Red generally refuses to answer any questions about how Aurora would interact with real-world physics, so most dealing with the topic get an answer of "I guess?" After one fan who repeatedly sent asks relating to physics suggested that any matter from the Aurora world would just explode if it entered the real world, Red confirmed that's what would happen if it meant they stop sending asks.
  • What Could Have Been
    • An early version of Kendal had him as an ordinary guy blessed by a war god with battle instincts.
    • There were multiple differences in the first draft of the Zuurith arc: Kendal wasn't going to be imprisoned, and Tynan and Tess weren't going to show up at all. The party was originally going to see Dainix in a gladiator match and break him out of prison afterwards, but it was scrapped when Red realized that it would be massively out-of-character for them to focus on just one guy among the many prisoners.
    • In earlier drafts of the fight against Tynan, Vash actually could heal Kendal and did so to replace an arm that would have been lost in the fight. This was scrapped because Red was worried that giving Kendal a free powerup he could theoretically use when things got too hard would make the story struggle with power creep.
    • Red considered having Dainix burn through his clothes whenever he went full Crucible mode, but decided that doing the "where are my pants" dance after every instance would be too silly.
  • Word of Gay
    • Red has confirmed Kendal to be asexual.
    • Dainix has been confirmed to be a trans man who transitioned before puberty.
    • Tess was also confirmed to be a lesbian.
    • Falst and Erin are Bisexual, though Falst leans toward men, Alinua is pan, and Dainix is gay.
  • Word of God: Red occasionally talks about lore and the mechanics of the world of Aurora in the OSP discord server's appropriate channel. She usually expands on things mentioned in the website's lore pages, or gives info that hasn't been mentioned in these pages at all, but as said info is common knowledge in-universe, it is not a spoiler. She also regularly answers questions posed to her on Tumblr.
  • Write What You Know: Red based the concept of the metal-caste Spark on her middle school experiences.
Red: I was undiagnosed neurodivergent and bullied nonstop for several years, and between that and a few other factors I basically had zero sense of personal agency or drive. I remember the exact moment I felt things click - we were at a camp for a week or so and the girls had deemed my clothes for the dance Deeply Uncool [...] and had taken it upon themselves to give me a makeover, which included using a curling iron on my hair. They were having a cheerful conversation around me and not paying too much attention to their work, and I felt the iron’s heat gradually go from "warm" to "painful" as it started to burn my scalp, and, like molasses, the thought very slowly occurred to me that I could tilt my head away ever so slightly to make it stop. It wasn’t a flash of lightning or anything, but it started me on track to realizing that I had even the slightest hint of control over my life.
