The band was ready to call it for good, but was told that they were contractually bound to deliver one more album, so the band wrote, recorded, and mixed it in forty days. It was also by far their most experimental release, and some of its idiosyncratic weirdness can likely be explained by the fact that the band had nothing to lose either way and had carte blanche to do what they wanted.
