Trivia / Aspen Extreme

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Grossed only $8 million of its $14 million budget.
  • Referenced by...: South Park did a parody of the flick in the episode "Asspen".
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Writer/director Patrick Hasburgh has said that his original vision for the film was "darker" and "more poetic". However, Disney wanted the movie to have a more lighthearted, Top Gun-like feel. To this day Hasburgh still hopes that he someday gets to release a director's cut of the movie that's closer to his original vision.
    • Hasburgh has also said in interviews that he would like to make a sequel, which would have Dexter's illegitimate son - now a teenager - going in search of TJ to find out more about his father. However, since Aspen Extreme has mostly been forgotten outside of the ski enthusiast community (and the Paul Gross fandom), it's unlikely that a sequel will ever be made.
  • Write What You Know: The film's writer and director, Patrick Hasburgh, loosely based Aspen Extreme on his own life story. In 1971 he moved from Buffalo, New York to Aspen, Colorado and became a ski instructor (during the summer months he worked as a river raft guide). He stayed in Aspen until 1980, when he moved to Hollywood to become a television and film writer.
