Trivia / Ashley Massaro

Go To

  • Contractual Purity: She caused a bit of a scandal in mid-2008 when she was linked with a high quality escort service. Although she was released that year, she still appeared on TV twice after the story broke - and claimed that she had asked for her release to care for her sick daughter. Also the One-Steve Limit may have come into play - as reports surfaced that it could have been a second Ashley Massaro, a Las Vegas based bikini model.
  • Creator Backlash: Her Women's Championship match against Melina. She was in tears afterwards because she knew it was awful and she'd had to wrestle with a broken foot.
  • Fan Community Nickname: Punx.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Getting cast in Survivor China led to her being suspended on-screen.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Closely subverted. She still appeared on TV twice after the escort story broke and it was Ashley herself who asked for her release - saying she did so to care for her sick daughter.
  • Romance on the Set: Dated Matt Hardy and Paul London while she was in WWE.
  • Throw It In!: She and Melina revealed that their Women's Championship match almost didn't happen. Ashley had broken her foot training for the match and they spent the whole night in gorilla position not knowing if it would happen. They were told by an agent "yeah, we can squeeze you guys in".
  • Troubled Production: Her entire career. She was placed on TV in a wrestling capacity instantly, with no training beyond how to do a monkey flip. For the next three years, she would suffer numerous injuries and have predictably horrible matches.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • She was slated to be the host of Bombshell Ladies of Wrestling but no-showed the first event and never appeared for the promotion afterwards.
    • She also expressed interest in a wrestling comeback, appearing as the General Manager for WILD Wrestling but that promotion ceased operation in 2012.
    • She also planned to return to in-ring competition after a decade of retirement but the plan never came to fruition as she committed suicide in 2019.
