- Disowned Adaptation: Mattel downright sued their label due to how "Barbie Girl" uses Barbie alongside suggestive lyrics. They made a concession in rewriting it for actual Barbie commercials, but the song is still vetted from the 2023 film, at least in its original form.
- Distanced from Current Events: In May of 2009, Aqua released the song "Back to the 80's", which included the lyric "and Michael Jackson's skin was black". A month later, Michael Jackson died, and the line was changed to "and Arnie told us I'll be back" out of respect.
- Dye Hard: Lene is a natural dark brunette, but is more well known as a redhead or with multi-coloured hair.
- One-Hit Wonder: Often labelled as this for "Barbie Girl". Yet not only did they score a second top 40 in the US (though "Lollipop (Candyman)" did not have the same staying power), but songs such as "Doctor Jones", "Cartoon Heroes" and "Turn Back Time" actually charted well in many countries.
- What Could Have Been: Prior to their 2001 split, they were busy recording their third album, which would've had a rockier sound.
