Trivia / Apollo 18 (Album)

  • Creator Backlash: Downplayed—John and John no longer feel the studio cut of "She's Actual Size" stands up all that well compared to the arrangement they play live.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • At Elektra's insistence, the album was nearly produced by Elvis Costello, a major influence on the band, but the Johns declined, partly because they'd felt they earned the right to produced themselves, and partly because they were afraid that working with their hero would sap their confidence. The situation was an early strain on their relationship with Elektra Records, which would continue to break down over the following years.
    • There was going to be a video for "I Palindrome I", featuring Linnell "walking in place on a treadmill in a pied piper outfit," but Elektra canceled it before filming.
