Trivia / Anthropoid

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $9 million. Global box office gross: $5 million.
  • Dueling Works: It came out a few months before The Man with the Iron Heart, which is about the exact same historical event. Anthropoid focuses entirely on the Czechoslovak commando with a linear unfolding of the events, whereas The Man with the Iron Heart is based on a Historical Fiction book (which was itself based on the events), gives a much heavier focus on Heydrich and his life. Heydrich shows up in one scene only in Anthropoid, that of the assassination attempt. The events are shown in Anachronic Order with How We Got Here in The Man with the Iron Heart. It's even because of the production of Anthropoid that many scenes of The Man with the Iron Heart had to be shot in Budapest instead of Prague. Interestingly, it's an odd repeat of a similar duel in 1943, between Hangmen Also Die! and Hitler's Madman.
  • Role Reprise: It's the third time German actor Detlef Bothe has played Heydrich, after Auschwitz: The Nazis and the Final Solution (a BBC documentary) and Lidice (a 2011 Czech film). It helps that he's the the most look-alike actor to ever have portrayed him. Most notably, he played the assassination attempt scene twice.
