- Creator's Oddball: Most of his work is set in either Ireland or England, in a more or less contemporary time period to when he was writing, and mainly revolves around love stories and families. La Vendée is a rare exception: although it has a love story, it's mainly a war epic set in Revolutionary France.
- Write What You Know: Trollope spent years in Ireland, so many of his novels are set wholly or partially in Ireland. He also had experience of debt and poverty thanks to his father's terrible financial decisions, so many of his characters end up in debt.
