- Dawson Casting: When the film was made, Drew Seeley (Joey) was 25, Emily Perkins (Britt) was 31, Jessica Parker Kennedy was 24, and Katharine Isabelle was 27, all while playing high school characters (though they mostly look believable). Selena Gomez (Mary who is a high school senior) meanwhile was 15, and the visible age gap between her and Seeley's characters was often criticised by movie reviewers.
- Mythology Gag: The stepsisters are wearing pink and green outfits in their last scene of the movie; this is the color scheme for their counterparts in the Disney version of the story.
- Those Two Actors: Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins had previously played sisters in the Ginger Snaps trilogy, a series of cult horror movies very different from this film.
