Trivia / Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons attracted fans new and old to the relatively less talked about mobile game. Especially in its home country Japan, which accounts majorly for the revenue boost.
  • New Work, Recycled Graphics: Many assets in Pocket Camp are ripped straight from Animal Crossing: New Leaf including characters, models and sounds.
  • No Export for You: This game is region-locked, so if you live outside any of the listed countries, you can't download the game from the app store. Worst still, is that when asked about it, Nintendo's representative went on a tirade about how those countries are being blocked for piracy and unauthorized modding...which is a little odd as some countries like Italy and the US are the source of unauthorized modding tools and piracy in the first place.
  • Saved from Development Hell: The game was announced to come out in Autumn 2016 but a Troubled Production led to it being pushed back. It was supposed to come out by Spring 2017 but ended up being released in Autumn 2017.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In development, the game was originally a menu-based game with an Animal Crossing theme based around town building (similar to SimCity or FarmVille). You could visit other towns, compare ideas, and purchase items from other towns. This idea wasn't well-received internally. It was seen as boring and too bare-bones to draw mobile gamers in for long periods of time. In November 2016 the project was rehauled into something more traditionally Animal Crossing.
    • Had Pocket Camp not delayed, it would have been released along with the Welcome amiibo update for New Leaf. The latter game would allow obtaining special furniture from linking it with the former. This special furniture, along with the method of obtaining it, was eventually repurposed for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
  • Working Title: Animal Crossing: Town Planner was the working title when the game was still in its original state.
