Trivia / Angels in the Outfield

Go To

  • California Doubling: Oakland Coliseum (in NorCal) stands in for Anaheim Stadium (in SoCal) for logistical reasons. At the time, Anaheim Stadium was a complete closed-off stadium due to upper deck seating in the outfield, so there would've been no way for the kids to peep into the game from the outside. The Angels' stadium is also located in a business area, while the Coliseum is in more of a residential location, where it would make sense that Roger could see the stadium from his house.
  • The Cameo: Former Oakland Athletics star Mitchell Page has a role as the Angels’ first baseman who questions Knox’s decision to get the team back to work on fundamentals after dropping their 15th game in a row. Kit “Hit or Die” Kesey is played by former Oakland Athletics third baseman Carney Lansford. And when the crowd makes the “an angel is here” signal during George Knox’s visit to Mel Clark, Tony LaRussa, the Oakland Athletics’ major at the time the movie was released, can be seen in owner Hank Murphy’s private suite.
  • Denial of Digital Distribution: The 1994 movie doesn't have any legal download or streaming options, even though it remains available on DVD.
  • Fake American: Dubliner Brenda Fricker as the Californian Maggie Nelson.
  • Playing Against Type: Warm-hearted funnyman Tony Danza appears as the film's most dramatic character.
  • Red Stapler: For a while the arm-flapping angel signal Roger creates was often imitated at actual Angels games.
