  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $17 million. Gross: $9.7 million.
  • Creator Killer: E. Max Frye wasn't the most prolific writer, though he did pen Something Wild, which was critically acclaimed and garnered a cult following. But the box office failure of this movie makes this the only time he got to sit in the director's chair and hardly did anything since.
  • Life Imitates Art: The plot of the film (1993) concerns an African American intellectual who has the cops called on him when his neighbors suspect him of breaking into his own house. In 2009, the exact scenario played out for Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., which led to the famous Beer Summit in which Barack Obama tried to get him and the cop to talk out their differences.
  • Playing Against Type: Brad Dourif in a rare comedic role as the well-meaning but clueless cop.
