• California Doubling: For some of it; While most of it was shot in the film's location of Montana, the training base scenes were filmed in an abandoned hanger in Washington.
• Died During Production: Diane Thomas, fresh off Romancing the Stone, died while working on the screenplay adaptation.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Steven Spielberg wanted to cast Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the leading roles, one as Pete Sandich and the other as Ted Baker. However, they both wanted to play Pete and Spielberg was unable to work it out between them.
  • The role of Hap was originally meant for Sean Connery, but he was unavailable.
