Trivia / Alpha (2018)

• Acclaimed Flop: The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, but it made only $35.8 million domestically and $98.4 million worldwide against a $50 million budget, due to being released on the same day as Crazy Rich Asians.
• Cross-Cast Role: As is typical in a lot of dog movies, Alpha is a female wolf played by a male wolf-dog.
• Deleted Scene: Or rather Deleted Narration, some versions of the film during its theatrical run were bookended by a narration by Morgan Freeman that is noticeably absent from the the home release.
• Dueling Movies: It was released around the same time as A-X-L, another A Boy and His X film. In terms of both box office returns and critical reception, Alpha was the winner by a mile.
• Release Date Change: It went through several; originally meant to be released September 2017, it was pushed back to March 2018, then to September 2018, before it finally got released in August.
• What Could Have Been: The film was originally titled The Solutrean, before being renamed to Alpha.
