Trivia / All Creatures Great & Small (2020)

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: Nicholas Ralph, like James Herriot, is Scottish unlike the previous actors who'd played him. He therefore also uses a Scottish accent (unlike them).
  • Backed by the Pentagon: The veterinary museum that occupies the original Skeldale Housenote  has lent its support to this production, including providing the historical veterinary equipment used for filming.
  • Billing Displacement: Nicholas Ralph plays the main character but isn't billed first. In Series 1, he came last among the five regular cast members. In Series 2, he moves up a bit to be billed third, however his name appears in the center of the screen to give him more prominence.note
  • California Doubling: The Glasgow train station seen in the first episode is played by the historic platforms at Keighley station, on Yorkshire's Keighley & Worth Valley heritage line. Keighley actually does get to play itself in series 3, also on the "heritage-dressed" platforms.note
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Many US listings, including PBS's official website, and the Closed Captions hyphenate Tricki Woo, when in the original novel the name wasn't hyphenated. Surprisingly, the official Twitter accounts for Masterpiece and PBS spell it correctly.
  • Creator's Oddball: The show is a feel-good and original dramedy on Channel 5, which is mostly known for filling its schedule with imported shows, edgy (near-pornographic) post-watershed content, and Peppa Pig. Though it has been noted that they do also have a curious obsession with shows (albeit more usually documentaries) set in Yorkshire.
  • In Memoriam: Two episodes featured memorial cards for Diana Rigg after her passing.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: This series reunites Samuel West (Siegfried Farnon) and Anna Madeley (Audrey Hall), who have been friends for decades and worked together at the Royal Shakespeare Company in the early Noughties.
  • The Other Darrin: Due to Diana Rigg having passed away, Patricia Hodge took over the role of Mrs Pumphrey from series 2 on.
  • Posthumous Credit: "A Tricki Case" first aired 12 days after the passing of Diana Rigg.
  • Reality Subtext: The palpable warmth and comfortable bickering between Siegfried and Audrey is pretty clearly influenced by the decades-long friendship between actors Samuel West and Anna Madeley. (According to West, when he learnt that Madeley had been cast as Audrey Hall, he jumped so high in the air with excitement that he hit his head on a lighting fixture.)
