Trivia / Aliens vs. Predator 2

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: Aliens vs. Predator 2 was the only Aliens vs. Predator First-Person Shooter game developed by a studio other than Rebellion, with Fox Interactive handing the development over to Monolith Productions, a veteran First Person Shooter developer with a resume of many well-received games under their belt. The resulting game is noticeably more scripted and plot-heavy than Rebellion's entries in the franchise, and has a more stylized artstyle akin to Monolith's No One Lives Forever (whose code base was used as a foundation to develop the game).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Unlike the first and third PC games, Aliens vs Predator 2 was never made available for digital distribution, much like No One Lives Forever, due to the I.P. rights being tied up. On the plus side, if you do have a physical copy of the game, the fan patch needed to get it to run on modern systems with modern resolutions also helpfully disables the CD check.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • There's dummied out code left in the game files for a boss fight against Dunya in the Marine campaign, who would have been driving an Exosuit. This boss fight would have been somewhat more elaborate than the ones seen in the final game, as her Exosuit would only be vulnerable to damage in the back, and depleting her health would result in her cockpit shield breaking, at which point you'd need to headshot her to end the fight. Ultimately the boss fight was unused, and a text epilogue appears at the end of the game stating Dunya survived and became the Iron Bears' new commander.
    • Pre-release screenshots and dummied out code show that the second-to-last Marine level, End of the Line, was originally supposed to be longer (in the final game it's one of the shortest levels), and the Iron Bears were supposed to appear in it, either as allies (Frosty is wearing one their uniforms at the time) or enemies.
