Trivia / Alien Soldier

  • Dummied Out: Extra bosses, one of which was fully programmed, some of which had human forms, were found in the game's code. There was also a dialogue system with written dialogue up to the Seven Force fight. There were also unused cutscenes. Several Treasure developers had shared their thoughts on the matter in a 1995 interview, translated here. You can find more detailed descriptions here, including a simple way to enable boss dialogue.
  • Newbie Boom: The Nintendo Switch Online rerelease introduced a lot of new players to the game, due to the original having a very limited release outside of Japan.
  • No Export for You: The original cartridge wasn't available in the United States and was confined to releases in Japan and Europe only. The game's only release in the US was through the Sega Channel service. Years later, Alien Soldier was released on Virtual Console, Steam, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack's Sega Genesis app, and the Sega Genesis Mini 2 in all territories.
  • What Could Have Been: Early promotions show an incarnation of Alien Soldier with a very different design. A fully human protagonist that seems to be part of a peacekeeping force is the most-notable change. Unused text in the game states that the SkullAndCrossGuns have come to invade, implying that Scarlet were originally supposed to be space pirates.
