Trivia / Alex Wright

Go To

  • Distanced from Current Events: Berlyn had the misfortune of having debuted shortly around the time of the Columbine massacre, and his attire (specifically, his ring jacket), apparently drew too many comparisons to the killers.note  WCW was then forced to drop the character after a handful of appearances, and Wright went back to being himself and partnered with Disco Inferno as the Boogie Knights.
  • Hostility on the Set: Wright gained a reputation as something of a Memetic Loser among smark circles, as according to various stories, a lot of wrestlers in WCW resented him for being pushed so hard for someone so young.
    • Paul Roma was told to make the young upstart Wright look good in their match at SuperBrawl V, on February 19, 1995, en route to losing the match. Roma instead no-sold Wright's offense, mocked his goofy dance to a Face reaction despite the fact that Roma was the Heel here, and actually kicked out of Wright's schoolboy rollup pin attempt, though the ref counted to three anyway. This turned out to be Role-Ending Misdemeanor for Roma, as WCW fired him after this and he has only ever been seen in small independents ever since.
    • At Fall Brawl 1999, an advertised match for the event was Berlyn vs. Buff Bagwell, but the match didn't go through because Bagwell didn't want to job to him, so the commentators just said he missed his flight when in reality he was backstage. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan subbed in for Bagwell and, just like Roma years before, no sold all of Berlyn's offense and was uncooperative, with the commentators a few times seeming visibly puzzled.
