Plushie Dreadfuls are a toy line produced by American McGee, creator of American McGee's Alice. The primary toy line of the brand is made up of plushes meant to represent mental illnesses and disabilities; later-added plushes are based on coffee types, fruit, and zodiac signs.
The website can be found here.
Tropes featured by Plushie Dreadfuls include:
- Abnormal Plushies: Several of the plushes look quite bizarre, including the Sensory Processing Disorder jellyfish bunny.
- Asshole Victim: It's hard to feel sorry for Scruffy Bumps' murder victims since the reason they were killed was for abusing animals.
- Bunnies for Cuteness: Most of the plushes are rabbits.
- Cats Are Magic: Scruffy Bumps has the power to cause animal abusers to die in natural disasters. The website also carries a plastic cat skull as a revenge charm.
- Cats Are Mean: Scruffy Bumps targets animal abusers with deadly magic and has a thoroughly creepy-looking smile reminiscent of Slimyswampghost's Cartoon Cat.
- Cool Crown: The Narcissistic Personality Disorder bunny has a shiny gold crown and collar, representing the delusions of grandeur the condition can cause.
- Creepy Doll: The Antisocial Personality Disorder and Sleep Paralysis bunnies are positively unsettling, intentionally so to represent the stigma attached to the former and the often frightening symptoms of the latter.
- Eastern Zodiac: So far there's been a dragon bunny and a... bunny bunny.
- Grotesque Cute: Some of the plushes look pretty monstrous but they're still very huggable.
- Killer Rabbit: The Anger bunny looks like this, but one can remove its head to show its true sadness.
- Mask of Confidence: The NPD bunny is a plain brown bunny wearing a shiny gold crown that's described on the website page as fake; the intention is to reassure NPD sufferers they're good enough, because the bunny is cute enough not to need any crown at all.
- Multiple Head Case:
- The Gemini Rabbit has two heads.
- The Anger Rabbit has an angry head that can be pulled off to reveal a sad head.
- Rule of Symbolism: Details of the plushes represent the diseases or disabilities their designs are based on in some way.
- Sensory Tentacles: The Sensory Processing Disorder plushie is a jellyfish-like creature with a rabbit's face and ears, representing "too many feelers taking in information".
- Western Zodiac: There's a full set of twelve zodiac bunnies.
