This Is Unforgivable! moments in Anime and Manga.

  • In Azumanga Daioh, Tomo pulls off the "decayed" version of this on Yomi, whose "unforgivable" crime is... successfully using a vending machine after it ate Tomo's money and eating curry without spilling any. Leads to a moment when Tomo chases Yomi around trying to whack her with a cafeteria tray, and hits Yukari instead.
  • Used by The Ingenue Eve Genoard near the end of the Baccano! light novel Drugs and Dominoes, after she learns that Gustavo killed her father and brother. She almost shoots him, but is stopped by Luck Gandor, who does the honors in her stead.
  • Played for Laughs during an episode of Beelzebub. After a demon world plant eats the...thing he brought to life from a demon world book, Beel goes all fiery mad, and in his baby gibberish declares "I will never forgive you for this!"...and gets swatted aside. He is just a baby after all.
  • Villain example: Rosine, The Heavy of Berserk's Lost Children arc, uses this line on Guts after he destroys the tree that she has been using to make her creepy little pseudo-elves out of the children she's kidnapped, which has the effect of supremely pissing Rosine off — badly enough in fact, that she decides to transform into her true Apostle form, a really creepy insect-like monster.
    • Another villain example from Berserk: when Nosferatu Zodd's duel with Guts is interrupted, he roars this at the interlopers. This guy takes the Worthy Opponent Blood Knight dynamic really seriously.
    • An actual (anti) heroic example comes from Guts in Volume 17, where he says something to the same effect. After getting a What the Hell, Hero? lecture handed to him, Guts rethinks how he dealt with avenging the Hawks after Griffith betrayed and sacrificed them during the Eclipse and that since he technically played a role in the group's downfall, he didn't have a right to avenge them... however, for what Griffith did to Casca during the Eclipse in which he viciously raped her in front of Guts and drove her insane as a result, Guts said that he would never forgive Griffith.
  • Ashley of Betrayal Knows My Name yells this in Episode 12 because Hotsuma ruined her clothes during their fight.
  • Black Cat: In the anime Train says this after Creed kills Saya.
  • Bleach:
    • When Rukia is being arrested, she tells Ichigo that if he comes after her, she will never forgive him. After some complaining, however, she comes to terms with the idea of him helping her.
    • One of the earliest was when Orihime destroys the Numb Chandelier, after first declaring "I will never forgive those who hurt Tatsuki!"
    • After Captain Komamura yells this at Tousen and Aizen, he proceeds to immediately bring out his Bankai and asskicking ensues. His ass, that is.
    • Captain Hitsugaya utters this at Aizen a few scenes earlier, in response to Aizen stabbing Hinamori. Hitsugaya then gets worked.
    • Ishida utilizes it during an internal monologue as he's facing down Mayuri Kurotsuchi. It's implied at the time that he might one day end up eating his words as the internal monologue also indicates his Super Mode response to how unforgivable he views Mayuri's behaviour to be has not met the requirements he was giving for activating the power.
    • Mayuri had one of his own against Szayel Aporro Grantz. Szayel claimed to be perfect and Mayuri derided him for it, as a man of science would be rendered obsolete by perfection.
    • In the English dub of anime Episode 144, one of these occurs when Ichigo, Chad and Uryu Ishida fight two Arrancar in Aizen's palace in Hueco Mundo. Ishida says that the less human Arrancar look, the less intelligent they are. One of the Arrancar does not take this well and tells Ishida so. In a subversion, Ishida proceeds to destroy him in the ensuing fight.
    • Charlotte Cuuhlhourne repeatedly screams this after Yumichika damages his hair.
    • Barragan...
      • Says this multiple times after all his Fraccion have been killed. It is unclear if he is angry at the captains for killing them or if he is angry at the fraccion for making him get off his ass and participate in the fight.
      • Says it twice in a row after he survives the Vizard Hachigen trapping him inside a kido barrier and Captain Soifon blasting him with her bankai.
    • Similarly, Captain Yamamoto says this to the vice-captains when they need his help to destroy Allon.
      • He earlier tells Kyoraku and Ukitake that while he's willing to allow his other men to track down and kill Renji for saving Rukia from her execution, their dishonoring their position as captains is far more severe and forces him to deal with them personally. He also seems to take it personally that they were the ones to sabotage the execution, if his boasting about the pair is anything to go by; it's 'unforgivable' not just as his subordinates but as his favourite students.
    • Ichigo says it to Kumoi (who's holding Rurichiyo hostage) in anime Episode 186.
    • After Tousen outlines his grievance against Kenpachi for killing the previous captain of Squad 11, Kenpachi asks if Tousen hates him, Tousen responds in the dub by saying that "(he) simply find(s him) UNFORGIVABLE!" (and says that Kenpachi is "beyond redemption" in the English version of the manga) before releasing his bankai.
    • Subverted in anime Episode 198. During the fight between Espada #7 (Zommari Rureaux) and Captain Byakuya Kuchiki, Rureaux says it to Kuchiki after Kuchiki uses his bankai on him. Captain Kuchiki then proceeds to effortlessly deflect Rureaux's special attack and destroy him with a single blow.
    • Anime Episode 204. Princess Lurichiyo and her servitor Kenryu have a falling out over Kasumioji clan policies. To heal the rift between them, Ichigo and friends pretend that Kenryu is going to commit suicide in shame. Lurichiyo falls for it, but Kenryu blurts out the truth and Lurichiyo tells Ichigo and the others that what they did was unforgivable.
    • Anime Episode 243. Yumichika says it to his zanpakuto's manifested spirit Ruri-iro Kujaku while fighting him.
    • Anime Episode 272 (omake). Ryuken says it to Isshin when he finds out Uryu was nearly killed by Ichigo when he went berserk.
    • Anime Episode 289. Arrancar #0 Yammy Riyalgo says it to Captains Byakuya Kuchiki and Kenpachi Zaraki while he's fighting them. He then activates his Resurrección form.
    • Anime Episode 326. Captain Hitsugaya and Reigai!Momo are fighting, with Hitsugaya getting severely hurt because he can't fight back. When the real Momo Hinamori intervenes, she tells Reigai!Momo that hurting Hitsugaya is unforgivable. It turns out that the real Momo Hinamori is in fact another Reigei!Momo pretending to be the real one.
  • A lot of this flies back and forth when most of the cast of Bokura no Kiseki regains their Past-Life Memories. To be specific, they are all the reincarnations of people in two groups: the original inhabitants of a castle in Zerestria that was invaded and destroyed by a country that was supposed to be its ally, and guests living in the castle who were from said invading country, Moswick. In particular, Meguro, the reincarnation of a squire of Zerestria, freaks out and tries to kill Nishina, who was a knight of Moswick. Teshimano and Harusumi talk him out of it.
  • Possibly one of the more terrifying examples occurs in the manga adaptation of Breath of Fire IV. Right after seeing a village of child-summoners murdered, Ryu utters a "This Is Unforgivable" as he unleashes THE KAISER DRAGON (for those unfamiliar with Breath of Fire, think "nigh-unstoppable Kaiju-esque Dragon Of Mass Destruction"). It takes a Cooldown Hug from Nina (whom, for the first time in her life, is scared out of her wits by a dragon) — and this is after the Kaiser Dragon has not only decimated a LEGION but bored a hole through a mountain via its Breath Weapon.
  • Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran: A Catchphrase of the honor-loving titular character is "Utterly Inexcusable!" which she tends to see a lot in the acts committed by others which prompt her to take action against them.
  • A rather odd example occurs in A Certain Magical Index when Touma says this to the villain of the Daihasei Festival arc, Oriana Thompson, who is involved in a plot to brainwash the city. It's not the possibility of mass mind control that really upsets him, though, it's that her actions are interfering with the festival that's going on. Yeah, Touma can be a bit strange.
  • When Chrono and Rosette discover Aion's plan in Chrono Crusade (right after destroying much of New York City in the process of executing it), they fly into a rage and shout "Aion, we will never forgive you!"
  • Priscilla from Claymore. She goes into a CRISIS of "Unforgivable", much like a Shinji's "must not run away", before actually going Berserk. The worst is that it was completely unjustified, and that her immature, self-righteous, ignorant attitude makes her do the heart-wrenching thing that is the basis for all the Claymore plot.
    • Her repetition of "Unforgivable" is more of a Madness Mantra, as it shows her absolute belief in the rules, and marks the beginning of her mental breakdown.
    • Clare from the same manga also utters this, which she mixes with "I will kill you" during her fight with Rigaldo.
  • Tamaki from Code Geass, despite being The Fool of the team, definitely gives vibes of this when he assumes the Britannians planned to lure the Black Knights and all the Japanese into a kill zone disguised as the Special Zone.
  • A Cruel God Reigns: This is Ian's opinion of Natasha staying silent about his father abusing Jeremy.
  • Cowboy Bebop Episode 22 "Cowboy Funk". During their confrontation on top of the ruined building Spike says "I will never forgive you" to Cowboy Andy, who's been interfering with his efforts to capture Teddy Bomber throughout the episode.
  • Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!: The super-pretentious Chevalier Aurite hands out not one, but two yurusenais to the Battle Lovers, when the two opposed teams of Magical Boys confront each other. It's combined with a Pointer Finger. Then the bad guys just walk off. This is lampshaded:
Battle Lover Epinard: They introduced themselves then left...
Battle Lover Cerulean: Lucky for us. You can't talk to guys like that anyway.
  • D.Gray-Man:
    • Someone once managed to get Allen angry enough to say this. EPIC asskicking ensued, but even so he was rather hopelessly outnumbered, and it took some timely assistance from the generals to take out all the mooks. Then things went downhill...
    • Occurs in Episode 56 from Allen to Tyki.
    • When Skin Bolic goes One-Winged Angel against Yu, he begins chanting "Never forgive" over and over.
  • Used to great effect in Death Note as Matsuda gives Light his much-deserved punishment.
Matsuda: I'll kill him! I'LL KILL HIM! HE HAS TO DIIIIIIIIE!
    • To illustrate, Light uses a form of this to his girlfriend Misa at one point, when he's telling her not to screw up the task he's giving her.
  • Delicious in Dungeon: Although he doesn't say it aloud, Shuro goes from friendly to ready to kill Laios after learning Team Touden used the dark arts to revive Falin. After he explains the potential consequences for everyone involved, it's kind of hard to blame him. Though he admitted that in the same situation, he probably would have done the same thing. It's mostly Laios' blithe attitude about it that infuriates him.
  • A favorite line in the Japanese version of Digimon Data Squad's Masaru Daimon/Marcus Daimon.
    • Typically, dubs don't carry this phrase over, substituting it for something that sounds more badass to the Western ear, but this dub actually uses this phrase frequently. And since Kurata is the biggest monster in the Digi-verse (yes, even Myotismon has met his match) everyone gets a chance to say it more than a few times. The dub of Digimon Tamers, on the other hand, used it once, by Takato and Guilmon as Gallantmon. It was Lampshaded by Beelzemon, who said "You can't forgive me? I don't recall ever asking for forgiveness!" And then the fight was on. It's not Narmful like the Data Squad version because Gallantmon didn't dramatically yell it, but stated it in a more matter-of-fact "this is why I must kill you" manner, befitting a literal Knight in Shining Armor.
      • Despite Digimon being a kids show, Gallantmon was willing to execute Beelzemon, and would have gone through with it were it not for the fact that said enemy's biggest victim, Juri/Jeri, asked for him to be spared.
      • Also (bonus points for Irony) not only Takato and Guilmon, but the rest of the heroes including Jeri do forgive him after his Heel–Face Turn. Beelzemon, however, never quite manages to forgive himself, and says this trope word-for-word.
Beelzemon: What I did... is beyond forgiveness. I don't need anyone to tell me that.
    • In the third-to-last episode of Digimon Frontier, Lucemon, in his Chaos Mode, is having his Near-Villain Victory moment of being about to finish off the DigiDestined with his Ultimate Sacrifice attack. Loweemon gets in the way and sacrifices himself against said attack, and Lucemon absorbs Koichi's data after the deliverance of both darkness spirits to Koji by him following that. Takuya does not take well to what Lucemon did to Koichi AT ALL. "How could you?! Lucemon, you've gone too far!!!!" Cue the appearance of Susanoomon afterwards.
      • Prior to that, the DigiDestined were in their final battle against Crusadermon and Dynasmon. Interestingly, up until that point, every other time they fought them, the Royal Knights had been kicking their sorry asses until Lucemon was finally resurrected. One episode later, after Lucemon's revival? Crusadermon seems to have been having trouble having faith in Lucemon lately, which leads her to get knocked down easily by MagnaGarurumon, to Dynasmon's horror. Enraged, Dynasmon vows to make the children pay for the "ruinous wound" as he called it, and prepares to use his Breath of Wyvern attack... only to proceed to get his butt handed to him on a plate by EmperorGreymon just as easily.
    • In Digimon Data Squad Thomas has had enough of MetalPhantomon torturing him with his mother's loss. After he gives out his "The Reason You Suck" Speech, Gaomon warp digivolves to MachGaogamon.
    • Digimon Adventure 02 had a quite horrific instance this from Mummymon in the penultimate episode: after watching MaloMyotismon brutally torture and kill Arukenimon while he and the heroes watch in horror, Mummymon flips out and attacks MaloMyotismon, trying to avenge her.
Mummymon: "You've taken away my Arukenimon, and now I'm going to make you PAY for what you did to her!"
    • In Digimon Adventure, a similar scenario is what activates Mimi's crest and makes Togemon evolve to Lilimon. In the original dub, at least.
    • Lighter example in Adventure as well: Yamato says to Joe that "above all" he can't forgive a guy who covers himself in an all men's bathhouse, while the latter is wearing a towel. There's goofy music in the background, but the immediate "ichiban yurusenee" drop shows he means very Serious Business. Mayhem ensues.
    • Mimi of Digimon Adventure: (2020) declared that she would never forgive Andromon for killing the Guardromon who had been helping the Chosen Children. Naturally, this resulted in Togemon evolving into Lilimon and completely defeating Andromon.
  • Dragon Ball:
    • Goku generally delivers this line to villains who went too far with pointless cruelty, but tends to forget about it before the fight is even over.
    • In the early Dragon Ball, Tambourine kills Krillin, and Tambourine's boss kills Muten Roshi. Goku kills both of them purely for revenge.
Son Goku: You killed my friends... I'll never forgive you!
    • Dragon Ball Z:
      • In the Namek Arc, Frieza kills Krillin, prompting Goku to declare he will never forgive Frieza while his out-of-control rage triggers his transformation in Super Saiyan. Subverted because later Goku decided to let him live, a case of Cruel Mercy on his part (considering Frieza was Half the Man He Used to Be at this point courtesy of his own energy disc), followed by blasting him to hell when Frieza made the mistake of trying to blast Goku In the Back as he was trying to leave (though Frieza did get better).
      • Taken to the next level in the last fight of the Cell Games arc. Cell went out of his way to make sure Gohan was well and truly pissed off, finally killing the Gentle Giant Android 16, to let out Gohan's whole power. It worked.
    • Dragon Ball Super:
      • Goku Black explains his origin story. He's a version of Zamasu from an alternate timeline, who used the Super Dragon Balls to swap bodies with that version of Goku. He then murdered Goku in his old body and then murdered his wife Chi Chi and son Goten. Upon hearing this, Goku explodes with power and rage, roars that he will never forgive him, then seriously tries to kill Black.
      • Goku screams this and attacks furiously when during their tournament fight, Jiren spitefully attempts to kill Goku's friends who were in the audience with an energy blast.
  • Izaya from Durarara!! mumbles this during a flashback of middle school. He's referring to Nakura who stabbed Shinra who is his only friend. Let's just say, Nakura was screwed the minute he stabbed Shinra by accident because of who his real target was. And 7-10 years later, Izaya extracts his revenge in the cruelest way possible.
    • Just about everything Izaya does pisses Shizuo off to no end, but two particular incidents made the latter really want to kill the former. One: Manipulating a little girl into a failed attempt at killing Shizuo, which put a cheerful smile on his face. and two: Izaya almost getting Vorona killed in his attempt to kill him and bragging about it. Shizuo calmly tells Izaya "Goodbye."
  • Kouta, from Elfen Lied, is understandably miffed when he realizes that the young woman he's been helping since the first episode is the same one that he watched kill his father and sister years ago. And the Enfante Terrible Mariko considers her fellow lab project Nana having friends to be cause enough for this.
  • Every member of Fairy Tail will make sure that anyone who would disrespect their guild or hurt their friends will get no less than what they deserve.
  • As one of the oldest examples in Shōnen anime (in fact, the show that kicked off the Shonen fighting genre), Kenshiro of Fist of the North Star often only broke his understated manner of speech to deliver this line, or a line to this effect, to some bad guy who went too far in Kicking The Dog, often followed with something about how there wouldn't even be bones left after he was done with the offending party. After saying it, he would kill the person he said that to. Even if Defeat Means Friendship and the antagonist turned out to be noble all along.
  • FLCL. In episode "Brittle Bullet" Naota's father walks into Naota's room and catches him and Haruko accidentally kissing. He is interested in Haruko himself, so he tells Naota that he can't forgive him and challenges him to a duel for Haruko's affections.
  • Subverted in the Fruits Basket manga. Kyo thinks that Tohru's mother said this to him as she was dying after her fatal accident, and that she died hating him for not saving her. However, a flashback near the end of the series reveals that what she was trying to say was "If you don't pay your bill, I won't forgive you," an effort to remind him of the promise he made to look out for Tohru.
    • When Kagura almost lets slip to Tohru about Kyo's true form, Kyo covers her mouth and says "If you utter another word, I'll never forgive you!". In response, Kagura yanks Kyo's arm behind him and says "Oh you won't forgive me will you?!"
  • In Fullmetal Alchemist, Winry finds out that Scar is responsible for the murder of her parents, she immediately picks up a nearby gun and points it towards him, only stopped by Edward. Later on, she runs into him and cooperates with him, but makes it clear that she does not forgive him for what's he done and only helping him because it is what her parents would have done.
  • Chichiri of Fushigi Yuugi, who rarely gets angry, furiously unloads this statement on a group of warriors who are about to disgrace an ally's sacrifice. Wisely, they back down.
    • Suboshi's brother was seemingly killed by the Suzaku Seven (but really, it was Tomo), and kills Tamahome's family in revenge. Tamahome's response is to go apeshit and nearly kills Suboshi in their first fight.
  • This was practically the Catchphrase of Cure White from Futari wa Pretty Cure. Cue asskicking of the Monster of the Week. Sometimes Cure Black said it at the same time, which is the leading cause of death among Pretty Cure villains.
  • In Chapter 51 of Future Diary this is written on Yuno's diary. "Amano was kissed by Akise. That Akise... I won't forgive him...!"
  • In Episode 5 of Gankutsuou Maximilien screams this during his fight with Albert.
  • In Episode 13 of G.I. Joe: Sigma 6, after having heavily damaged his ability to assume battle mode by blowing up his Power Stone in front of him, Duke battles it out with COBRA Commander in a one-on-one duel without weapons to have him prove how tough he is. After taking a few blows from the villain, he shouts out, "I've had it with you!" before fighting back and besting him with some more punches.
Duke: That was for the team... [punches and sends COBRA Commander sliding on his feet towards the edge] ...and THAT was for YOUR PAYBACK!
  • Weed from Ginga Densetsu Weed says that he never forgives someone who abuses or kills other dogs just for the killer to save their own hides.
  • Hanaukyō Maid Team La Verite Episode 9. After Lemon, Marron, and Melon speak rudely to Captain Konoe Tsurugi, Konoe's lieutenant Yashima Sanae tells them "Speaking so rudely to captain...unforgivable!" She then chases them away.
  • Although the intentions aren't carried over between meetings, this is often Hayate of Hayate the Combat Butler's manner when Nagi is threatened. Gilbert is frequently the target, and clearly frightened of the consequences of his actions, though not repentant not to try again at a later date.
  • In the 7th OVA of Hellsing Seras screams this repeatedly at Zorin Blitz when the latter insults the dead Pip (who Zorin just killed), calling him an 'insect'. In fact, this pisses Seras off so badly that she drinks Pip's blood and becomes a full vampire, then proceeds to utterly tear apart Zorin's men, just before handing Zorin herself a truly painful and very deserving death.
  • High School D×D: Played for Laughs in the Issei Hyoudou vs Vali Lucifer fight. Azazel claims that Vali will use his Divine Dividing ability to shrink the breasts of the girls around them. An enraged Issei roars that he will never forgive Vali for that, gains a massive power boost, and beats the shit out of him. Vali is completely dumbfounded by this, his tone of voice in the rest of the battle making it clear that he cannot believe what he's hearing.
  • Any time this is uttered in Higurashi: When They Cry (or "I'm sorry," if it's said sotto voce), someone is going to get murdered. If they're lucky.
    • Higurashi Kira Episode 2 (the Magical Girl episode) had Satoko declaring that she would not forgive Tokyo Magika for hurting her Nii-nii. Later, Oyashiro Rika and Trap Satoko declared payback time before moving on to finish off Nail Ripper and send Miyo Takano flying.
  • When Jonathan Joestar meets Dio Brando in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, the very first thing the latter does is literally kick Jonathan's dog Danny. Jonathan responds with the trope name, though he doesn't do anything to follow up on it, at least not for a while; it might have been less of a big deal in this context, seeing as he's not Japanese. Regardless, this little scene paints their relationship for the rest of their lives. It went over so well that it eventually became his default taunt in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle.
Jonathan: [enraged] What was that for?! HOW DARE YOU!
    • Later, after a long string of torment from Dio, what really set Jonathan off was Dio stealing the Sacred First Kiss of Erina, Jonathan's Love Interest. This prompts an enraged Jonathan to race home to give Dio a thrashing for this injustice.
    • It is rather ironic that Jonathan is so quick to declare this at first; later on he's easily the most forgiving Joestar in the series, by a very wide margin. He even forgives Dio for killing him on his honeymoon, along with everything else he did, and tells him he thinks of him as a friend as they sink to the bottom of the ocean.
    • In Part 2: Jonathan's grandson, Joseph Joestar lays into a mafia gangster and his mook for one: mocking his Token Black Friend Smokey in public, and two: thoughtlessly upsetting Joseph's Granny Erina with news of the supposed death of his Honorary Uncle Speedwagon. He would later gundown a vampiric Straizo for the murder.
      • Despite having never met him, Joseph has clear respect for his deceased grandfather, which makes his hatred for Dio all the more apparent. Not only did Dio kill Jonathan at the end of part 1, he decapitates his head, and steals the body of his rival for his own. When he told the story to his grandson Jotaro in the beginning of Part 3, it was clear as day Joseph was pissed.
Old Joseph: This son of a bitch took over his body!!!
    • In Part 3: Stardust Crusaders, the protagonist and Joseph's grandson, Jotaro Kujo, states that while he isn't a nice guy, he won't tolerate hurting innocent people. The then Brainwashed and Crazy Kakyoin learns what happens when you press such a Berserk Button the hard way when Hierophant Green injures the school nurse.
      • One of the antagonists of Part 3, Steely Dan kills Enyaba, who was wholeheartedly loyal to Dio, holds Joseph hostage with his Stand, the Lovers, and subjects Jotaro to one humiliating act after another. After finally being cornered, Dan begs for mercy, but Jotaro says straight to his face that he'll never forgive him, and then proceeds to subject him to three and a half pages worth of the Ora Ora treatment courtesy of Star Platinum.
      • In the climactic battle of Part 3, Jotaro has Dio at his mercy after unlocking the ability to stop time. Unlike his ancestor Jonathan, Jotaro doesn't forgive Dio for all that he's done (which includes killing Kakyoin and Joseph, the latter of whom later gets better), but he won't kill him while he's down, because it would leave a bad taste in his mouth. It's only after Dio shortly recovers from his legs being broken and tries one last desperate attack that Jotaro finally finishes him off.
Jotaro: There's only one reason why you lost, Dio. There's just one simple answer. You really pissed me off.
    • Jean-Pierre Polnareff vowed to his deceased sister that he would kill "the man with two right hands", who brutally raped and murdered her. He succeeds, especially after J.Geil and Hol Horse seemingly kill Avdol. Later on, he would avenge the deaths of Avdol (for real this time) and Iggy by killing Vanilla Ice.
    • This is pretty much Josuke Higashitaka's typical reaction to anyone who insults his trademark hairstyle. When he was young, he was mysteriously struck down with an intense fever (which was actually due to Dio's influence) and his mother, Tomoko had to drive him to the hospital. Unfortunately, there was a heavy blizzard that day, and Tomoko couldn't drive through the thick snow. But then, as young Josuke's life hung in the balance, a young man with a pompadour appeared and offered to help push Tomoko's car through the snow, and mysteriously vanished after he succeeded. Josuke was forever grateful to this teenager, and styled his hair after him in respect. Any insult to his hair is seen as an insult to the young man who saved his life, and he will react with violence, as seen when he maims a rude upperclassman with his Stand Crazy Diamond, and he beats Rohan to within an inch of his life after he insults it in their rather one sided fight.
Josuke: I won't let anyone get away with making fun of my hair, no matter who it is.
    • Angelo, the Starter Villain for Part 4, kills Josuke's maternal grandfather, Ryohei Higashikata, as payback for arresting him years before the events of Part 4 began. Josuke's response isn't to kill him or send him back to jail, but to fuse the bastard in stone, trapping Angelo in a Fate Worse than Death.
    • After Tamami Kobayashi weighs down Koichi's mother's and sister's hearts with his Stand, which binds weighted locks forged from their own guilt to them, he then gleefully confides to Koichi on how, rather than swiping half a million yen from him like how he promised in their last encounter, he plans on taking the deed to his family's house. This prompts Koichi to respond as thus:
Koichi: How dare you do that to mom and big sis... I won't forgive you. I'm not going to forgive you!
    • Josuke and Okuyasu feel this way about the murder of their friend Shigechi at the hands of Yoshikage Kira. They, and the rest of the Morioh Warriors, vow to avenge him and the other murder victims by bringing Kira down.
    • The Joestars are well known for not just their determination and ability to withstand pain, but also their compassion and unwillingness to forgive evil. Giorno Giovanna, the son of DIO conceived through Jonathan Joestar's body, exemplifies this in his own way. His goal is to take control of the Italian mafia gang, Passione, and reform it to be a force for good, to protect innocent people, and he won't spare anyone who harms the innocent. One example of this is when he kills Polpo by making him unwittingly eat his own gun, using Gold Experience to turn it into a banana, which ended with Polpo involuntarily shooting himself in the mouth. Prior to this, Polpo's Stand, Black Sabbath killed an old janitor, and Polpo showed no remorse or care for anyone who got killed because of his Stand's action, due to his belief that God is willing to forgive murder when someone insults you. Giorno takes this to heart when he commits the murder of Polpo.
Giorno: So an act of disrespect is justification for murder in your book, huh? I see now. You taught me a very important lesson... which is handy since you disrespected the life of that innocent old man. I took the liberty of changing one of your guns into your favorite snack. (turns to show a disgusted frown) It's your last meal, Polpo. Hope you enjoy it.
    • Bruno Bucciarati already had a sour opinion of Passione circulating drugs throughout Italynote , but once he learns first-hand that the head of the organization plans to murder his own daughter (who had no idea he even existed), for his purely selfish ends, Bucciarati is instantly inspired to betray the Boss in order to protect Trish.
Bucciarati: Right now the Boss is... The most repulsive form of evil is to exploit innocent people who don't know anything, and to use others merely for their own gain! A father did this to his innocent daughter, all to cover his own ass?! This is unforgivable! You have once again betrayed my heart!
  • Kagome from Inuyasha has this reaction when Manipulative Bastard Naraku stages an Evil Plan designed to turn the True Companions against Sango and/or corrupt her by forcing her to kill her mind-controlled little brother and/or kill them all by luring them into a castle full of poisonous miasma. She locates him by the fragments of the Shikon no Tama he has, and fires a purifying arrow at him. Which blows through a building outer wall, dissipates the toxic miasma, and blows off his arm. He is so stunned he just stands there while she fires a second arrow at him, which reduces him to a head. After that he flees, and it's a long time before he dares face her again. She's actually so pissed off that the mere beginning of her "I won't forgive you"-like declaration features a whole page and follows for several pages.
  • This is practically King Dedede's Catchphrase in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.
    • Then there's that moment in the episode "Sweet and Sour Puss" when a monster called Togeira possesses him, taking away his ability to get angry and causing him to act kind and calm towards others even through all the beatings everyone gives him. Much later, after the King has been pounded and smacked around enough, Togeira, having been storing his anger from within him while everyone was beating on him, stores enough of his anger to unleash it all in one big mega-attack that has Dedede exploding into a massively firey rage that scares everyone and scream at the top of his lungs, "Now it's payback time!" Dedede eventually goes back to his normal self after he slips on a banana peel, therefore knocking Togeira right out of his own head.
  • The Legend of Zelda (Akira Himekawa):
    • Also, in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1999), after Link is forced to kill his old friend, Volvagia, in order to free him from Ganondorf's control and awaken Darunia as the Sage of Fire, he calmly declares this trope to the Big Bad himself.
Darunia: I understand how you feel. Stay here and cool your head. If your emotions erupt you will never defeat Ganondorf.
Link: You're right, Darunia. But I... I will never forgive Ganondorf.
    • In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (2005), after Agahnim sacrifices Zelda in front of Link and sends her to the Dark World imprisoned inside a crystal, Link shouts out, "Agahnim, I'll never forgive you!" before absorbing his magic with the Master Sword, leaving Agahnim shocked in a "This Cannot Be!" manner and sending the magic right back at him.
  • Maria no Danzai:
  • Mazinger Z:
    • Whenever Kouji Kabuto said this sentence, you knew he was REAL angry, and someone was going to be summarily trashed in the near future. A good example was in the manga, after he learnt Dr. Hell had created a weapon that was able to nullify gravity... and had tested it on an entire city. Another two memorable instances happened in the Mazinkaiser movie (Mazinkaiser vs Great General of Darkness: at the beginning, after Lori and Loru's Heroic Sacrifice, and at the end, right before he absolutely destroys the Mykene empire army:
Kouji: Because of you... Many people have died... THAT IS UNFORGIVABLE! [1]
    • This sentence was also used fairly often by Baron Ashura (to Kouji and his friends after being defeated) and Dr. Hell (to Ashura after his servant botched still another operation).
    • Tetsuya Tsurugi of Great Mazinger and Duke Fleed of UFO Robo Grendizer also followed in Kouji's footsteps.
  • In the first season of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, the heroines say this most of (if not all) the time to their enemies (be it the Dark Lovers or the Black Beauty Sisters) for whatever it is that they did that terrorized the seas or the people, be it making a theme park only to destroy it, chase down a boy who assaulted them with a water hose and retaliate by attacking, or even planning to force-feed chocolates to girls (which would turn the Mermaid Princesses to mermaid form).
  • In the finale of Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Domon says this to Major Ulube, who has been behind all the crap Domon had to go through.
Domon: You piece of filth! My dad! My mom! My brother! Schwarz! My master! You've taken them all from me! And now Rain! Ulube... You'll pay for this. There's no way I'll ever forgive you!
  • The fifth episode of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Season 2 has the A-Laws attacking the Cataron base (that contains war orphans as well as the members of Cataron itself), bombing the base, taking out all their mobile suits with ease and then letting loose little robotic shooting machines of death, the Automatons, as cleanup. When Lyle, secret member of Cataron that he is, sees the carnage, he goes Guns Akimbo on the robots and then turns on the A-Laws pilot above him, shouting "I'll never forgive you! I'll never forgive you, A-Laws!"
  • Mobile Suit Gundam SEED has Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala go through this with each other, appropriately named the Cycle of Hate, when they kill each other's respective friend in battle. The cycle only breaks when Athrun seemingly kills Kira himself. Kira actually survives and is nursed back to health by Lacus, Athrun's ex-fianceé. Ultimately subverted because as time passes, the complicating politics of the situation make each realize there are bigger things to worry about. They, Lacus, and Cagali actually end up uniting on a third front.
    • Lacus herself notably threatens this early on in a Foreshadowing moment for both her and the enigmatic ZAFT Commander Le Creuset. He internally questions her timing at pulling this out, but says "I understand", and backs down.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam AGE follows suit when Flit returns from his battle against Desil. As he's prepared to enter the battlefield one last time, he declares that he will never forgive the UE for killing Yurin.
    • This case was an excellent example of how much impact the phrase has lost over the years. When Flit says it, the viewers didn't give it much thought... and then were very surprised to see that, after the Time Skip, Flit meant what he'd said, and had dedicated his life to exterminating the UE, at any cost, regardless of how ruthless he had to be to do it.
Prime Minister: Commander Asuno! If you do this, any hope of compromise will be lost! This war will continue until one side is completely wiped out!
Flit Asuno: Yes, I know. That was my intention from the beginning.
    • Kio also deliver this phrase to Zanald after killing Deen, with FX Burst.
  • In My-Otome, while Arika fights Tomoe, the reveals that she was responsible for all of the things Miya took the heat and got expelled for. Arika only responds with shock until Tomoe, while mentioning her responsibility in the acid drop that injured Arika's friend Erstin, expresses pleasure regarding Erstin's death some time afterward, prompting Arika to respond with this phrase.
  • Used in Naruto during the Retrieve Sasuke arc. Jirobo made the mistake of insulting Shikamaru, then fighting Choji, who considers him his best friend. He shouts the trope and wins the fight. Seriously, don't ever insult Choji's friends.
    • Tsunade says this to the six paths of Pain after they level Konoha.
    • Naruto himself is also clearly thinking this during the fight with Pain. However, the Fourth happens to partially disagree because he believes what Pain said about the cycle of hatred. Naruto settles on a middle ground: he won't forgive Pain, but he won't kill him either, which ends up paying off very well. He has forgiven Nagato the second time they meet though.
    • In the "Fire Temple" Filler arc, Sora tells Kazuma he won't forgive him if he insults his father again. However, Kazuma's response is "You won't forgive me? So what?!"
    • Naruto's fight with Gaara. Towards the end of the fight, he screams "I've HAD IT with you!" (in the anime) and head butts him. Later on, when both are too weak to even get up, he attempts to crawl ON HIS CHIN and defeat Gaara.
      • Subverted immediately later though, Naruto forgives Gaara due to realizing the boy is lashing out from the pain his village gave him, given that Naruto himself was dangerously close to doing so earlier.
    • Naruto says this to Haku after he "kills" Sasuke.
    • Kakashi has this reaction to Kabuto raising the dead and forcing them to fight for him. Specifically, Kabuto raised some of Kakashi's Worthy Opponents, who had finally come to peace at the moment of their deaths. And Kabuto took away that peace by yanking them back into the world of the living as undead slave soldiers.
  • Negi from Negima! Magister Negi Magi uses it the first time he confronts Fate Averruncus, this is a subversion, since Fate way out-classes Negi. Later Evangeline, however, kicks much butt.
    • Chachamaru uses it facing down a magical wild beast.
  • Haruka in Noein once she really starts getting pissed at the villain. It took the entire series for her to get to this point, and she had been accepting of nearly everyone else's Jerkassness
  • One Piece:
    • Luffy angrily battles Zoro because he had slaughtered most of the villagers of an island (early on into the Baroque Works arc), who had given the Straw Hats plenty of food earlier on (pointed out by Luffy looking like an impossibly fat slob at the moment). Luffy was unaware that they were in fact bounty hunters. He even actually utters "Unforgivable" before the battle rages higher.
    • In fact, any time Luffy angrily shouts something about True Companions (at a villain, that is), it means this (as abusing one's True Companions or threatening his own is the one thing that will make Luffy go mad). After this, asskicking ensues.
    • Robin gets like this whenever someone destroys history in front of her (ruins, artifacts, etc.). In the Skypiea arc, the poor bastard who pressed her Berserk Button ended up begging for forgiveness. Robin's response? "No." *CRACK*
    • In the sixth movie, after Luffy sees his entire crew get eaten by a Man-Eating Plant partnered to the Big Bad, he invokes this several times... only to be powerless against said Big Bad. It gets an echo later: after said Man-Eating Plant is killed, and along with it the Plant People that were created from the Big Bad's memories of his deceased friends and crewmates that he used in order to pretend that they were still alive. Realizing that the illusions were broken, the Big Bad turns on the one who killed his plant while invoking this trope, only to be stopped by Luffy, who kills him. Yes, you read that right; it really was beyond any possibility of forgiveness.
    • Dueling examples from Iceberg and Franky. Iceberg declares he can't forgive Franky for building the weapons that were used to frame their father-figure, Tom. Franky in turn cannot forgive Iceberg for building ships for the World Government, who did the framing. Both are subversions. Iceberg states that even if he can't forgive Franky, he is still happy Franky isn't dead and eventually gets over his anger. Franky later realizes that Iceberg making connections with the government prevented them from doing the same to him as they did with Tom.
    • After learning Doflamingo's extent of crimes, such as enslaving the native dwarves, turning dissenters into toys, and launching a successful False Flag Operation against King Riku which not only defamed him, but also doomed his grandchild Rebecca into a hated teenager, pragmatic characters like Franky and Robin, who would normally give the mission the most priority, declare this in Tranquil Fury, working then to destroy Doflamingo's regime.
    • Two actions that Sanji will never forgive, let alone do, is waste food or let someone go hungry; he almost starved to death once as a child, and knows it is not pleasant. One of the few times he tried punching a foe (he almost never uses his hands in a fight) was against someone who used food as weapons and armor, clearly never intending to eat it.
    • Big Mom, for all that she's one of the main antagonists of the show, values those who help her. When she learned that the Animal Pirates had burned down Okobore Town, a place that helped her when she had amnesia, that was the straw that broke the camel's back for her alliance with Kaido.
Big Mom: Shut up! You fools...even in this immoral age of pirates, there's supposed to be humanity and justice!
    • For all his kindness, if there is one thing Bartholomew Kuma cannot forgive, it is slavery. When slavers invaded the southern half of the Sorbet Kingdom to enslave the people there with tacit permission from King Bekori, Kuma outright called it "unforgivable" and attacked them, causing a rebellion and leading him to being imprisoned before being rescued by Dragon and Ivankov. Later, when Bekori escalated his crimes to genocide and attempted to slaughter all the poor people in his kingdom, Kuma stopped holding back entirely and liberated the entire country, kicking Bekori out of Sorbet permanently; and when the latter attempted to return and reconquer his lost kingdom, Kuma sunk him and his entire fleet, implicitly killing him.
  • In an episode of Ouran High School Host Club Tamaki says "Unforgivable!" when eavesdropping on a moment between Haruhi and Hikaru.
  • Peach Girl: Momo says this when a trio of girls who are in love with Kairi destroy a necklace Toji gave her because they are jealous of her for getting Kairi's attention.
  • In Peter Pan no Bouken Hook says this to a giant sea creature (no, not the crocodile), which might make uninitiated anime fans watching the subbed version wonder why a giant sea creature cares whether Hook forgives it or not.
  • Towards the end of Pokémon the Series: Black & White's first season, after Meowth betrays Ash and the group, Pikachu becomes extremely furious with Meowth for even doing it, and decided that the final straw. He freed the group's Pokemon to assist in the escape, and when Team Rocket retreats, Pikachu has to be held back by Ash.
  • Tatewaki Kunō says this ('Yurusen!' actually) in Ranma ½ during his first fight with Ranma, after he insults Akane. Cue ass-kicking — Kunō's.
  • Yomiko of Read or Die says this as she breaks down and sobs in an incredibly Tear Jerker scene in the OVA after the Nancy clone impales the original Nancy with her arm.
  • Reborn! (2004) Tsuna says this when he is enraged by Byakuran for triggering events that led to Uni's self-sacrifice, or self-imposed death. There is a good reason why that chapter was labeled "The Last Blow."
    • And again in Chapter 339 to Daemon Spade.
  • Rebuild World: Subverted when it's combined with The Promise. To make sure that Akira doesn't end up trying to kill her over Shiori paying him way too little for a card MacGuffin, Reina makes a promise never to go against him. Shortly after, she reveals that she wanted to say that Akira killing Katsuya was unforgiveable, but that she can't now that she’s made that promise. Akira finds the whole thing charming.
  • Rosario + Vampire: In Chapter 41 of the second manga season, Kurumu says "...won't forgive. I won't forgive you if you hurt Tsukune!"
  • Sailor Moon:
    • Used often in Sailor Moon's In the Name of the Moon speech.
    • Other Senshi also use it as well, specially Rei/Mars (a Monster of the Week destroys her song sheets she worked so hard to write so she could be in her School Festival) and Ami/Mercury (another Monster of the Week uses babies as hostages, not allowing Moon and the others to attack her) in the R season.
    • A particularly effective one of these was uttered by Makoto/Jupiter, just before destroying Falion with her Supreme Thunder attack.
    • A baddie also uses this; namely, Nehellenia in the penultimate story arc in the anime, when Galaxia tricks her into unleashing a nightmare by repeatedly muttering "Unforgivable" until a mirror appears from her heart. She then shatters it, unleashing a curse onto Tokyo.
  • Fumio of Saitama Chainsaw Shoujo breaks into a Madness Mantra version of this, just before snapping due to being dumped by her boyfriend. And then we all know what she does next.
  • In Shaman King, Yoh immediately goes ballistic on Faust after the latter has just tortured Manta in front of him, even to the point of stating to him in his rage quite a few times that he will never forgive the latter for hurting his friend before he ends up running out of Furyoku as a result of losing control of himself. Then again, not very many things manage to piss off such a generally cheerful and relaxed protagonist that way.
    • A villainous example that is played for laughs with Boris, one of Hao's followers. The minute Horohoro points out that his teammate, Kouji Yamada (or Damayaji however you want to refer to him), looks more like a vampire than him, Boris immediately flips out, breaks down crying and screams "Unforgivable!" at the thought of being "compared to a miserable creature" in a humiliating way, and proceeds to kill his own teammate to destroy any confusion, afterwards blaming Team Yoh for the humiliation. He later screams this again when Ryu manages to punch him in the face.
    • In the 2001 anime, after Hao eats his brother Yoh's spirit (after which he attempts to digest it and therefore cause him to become one with him), Yoh's friends fly into a rage and make several futile attempts to attack him out of unforgiveness towards him. Even his fiance Anna says that she will never forgive him. Things settle down a lot when Manta helps them defeat his Shikigamis, though, and more so when Yoh regains his spirit to the relief of all of his friends, and Anna welcomes him back.
Tao Len: ...You took my friend away and YOU'RE GOING TO PAY!!
  • In Episode 9 of Sonic X: How dare you, Eggman! You destroyed Amy's lucky bracelet that she made for Sonic to protect him when he goes in the water, despite his fear of it. And she reacted with the line of "I don't believe it!" Not only did it make her cry a few seconds afterwards, but shortly after, she flew into a rage with fire burning in her pupils. You hit Amy's Berserk Button and you didn't even know it. Now she's REALLY PISSED at you, screaming at the top of her lungs, "Now you're gonna PAY!!!", which takes you by surprise. Once she charges at you and one of three of your current Robots Of The Week, Serpenter, shouting to you both "Don't mess with me!" along the way, and proceeds to kick its ass before going after you next, that's where you realize that you never should have made her this pissed off at you and that you're completely screwed. Cue Oh, Crap!.
    • Also, in the original edit, this is Sonic's final line at the end of the finale of Season 3, obviously declared against Eggman. It was replaced in the dub by another line in the form of "Life never stays slow around here for long! Thank goodness! Watch out, Eggman, I'm comin' at ya full speed!"
  • In Soul Eater, Death the Kid is as likely to use this in reference to anyone affecting his beloved symmetry as he is to any villain who likes to gather human souls for themselves and/or insult Shinigami-sama.
    • More dramatically, Spirit tells this to Medusa when she say she plans to abandon Crona.
  • In the Steel Angel Kurumi series, Kurumi says this whenever Nakahito, or Nako gets hurt.
  • In Sukeban Deka, "Saki's" catchphrase is "Omaera, Yurusansezore!" (You Won't Be Forgiven!)
  • Tenchi's mother in The Movie, Tenchi Muyo! in Love, utters this. Yeah, up to this point, Achika was the Ordinary High-School Student, and Kain was a Sealed Evil in a Can that nothing else in the universe could defeat. Doesn't matter.
  • Even the otherwise lighthearted Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has an example: post-Time Skip, Yoko picks up teaching in an elementary school as job, hiding her real identity. When two rogue Ganmen show up and start wrecking the place, she gets angry. But when they threaten the life of one of her students (a little girl), she utters the line as she goes batshit fucking mad and breaks out the hidden armory. Asskicking ensues.
  • Tokyo Mew Mew does this really well, with the Mew Mews using this against the aliens and their Chimera at random times, either before or after transforming.
    • Ichigo/Zoey even uses this trope as quite a Badass Boast towards a monster attacking Tokyo in her dream in the beginning of an early episode.
Ichigo: You're a wicked monster and you've terrorized this city for the last time. Now you'll pay!
  • Fujiwara no Mokou in the Touhou Project manga Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth likes using this trope when it comes to her bitter rival Kaguya. Face it, she just hates her so much because of the humiliation she gave her father.
  • This phrase is used a few times in Transformers: Super-God Masterforce; for example, by Minerva when the Decepticons kill a little girl's puppy, and by Ranger when they seriously injure his horse.
  • Maria of Umineko: When They Cry yells this repeatedly in Episode 22 before taking revenge on her abusive mother.
    • Earlier, Battler was angered by Beatrice having gleefully laughed about Eva-Beatrice killing and reviving Rosa and Maria over and over again, so much so that he decided he wouldn't accept "that bitch" as his opponent. He told Virgilia that she could call her student if she wanted to, but that didn't mean he would forgive her. A disappointed Virgilia told Beato to try being more encouraging if she was to be forgiven by him and accepted as his opponent.
  • Judai of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is fond of this phrase when It's Personal, i.e. finding out his mentor is a Treacherous Advisor (working for the Big Bad, okay, not too nice — but betraying his trust = unforgivable).
    • This is also a common utterance for the heroes in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! (not the Toei one). Offending Yami on a moral/emotional level is not good for your health.
      • Happens so often in the original manga its practically Yami's catchphrase. What's especially hilarious is when he does it several times to the same person.
      • Becomes kind of ironic when villains who are defeated are often redeemed (more often in the anime). Yami can be surprisingly forgiving for his character type, as long as the villain ceases villainous activity. Exceptions include the Thief Bakura, who never reformed and represented the ultimate enemy.
  • In YuYu Hakusho seasonal Big Bad Sensui forces the heroes to play a video game made real by a pyschic child, who is playing as the game's Big Bad. As long as the heroes keep playing they can't die but if they win the game the kid dies, something Sensui conveniently forgot to tell his child follower. The team is reluctant to does this; but in the end one of them, Kurama, does the deed. Afterwards, Kurama doesn't utter this line but you can definitely tell he's thinking it; both by the expression on his face and his actions later on.
    • Yusuke also declares this to Toguro once he kills Genkai. But it's made very convincing by the cold, bitter delivery.
